Someone tried to repair a forearm ding, filled it with clear, turned it on a lathe to poish it and burned through a small amount of clear coat to the sealer below. I DO NOT want to refinish this cue. Is there anyone who can airbrush/overspray this area and buff it out? or?
As much as I hate to suggest this, I'm going to but this should only be used in absolute emergencies such as this one....
Lightly prep the surface with 400g sandpaper, I strongly suggest wetsanding instead of dry becasue you keep the surface cool and end up with a smooth surface instead of a lumpy or smeared one from heat build up due to friction of dry sanding which can melt the finish instead of removing it....
Next use a spraycan of fast drying clear urethane from any paint store or hardware store.... tape off the existing area and rest of the cue leaving an inch radious of extra room beyond the problem and sanding area...
Next step is to lightly dust the surface with the spray can.... this will give you a "tack" coat, in about 2-3 min. go back over the area again and again using this same methos until a rich smooth layer is achieved...
Last step after urethane is completely dry use 1200-1500g sandpaper and wetsand entire sprayed area after removing tape to clean up any imperfections and blend finish into existing surface. then buff cue using a urethane polishing paste such as "finesse-it II" by 3M to restore the shine as directed......
Problem recified !
Recommendations : I suggest using a lathe if applicable for the buffing procedure ! and do not use a high speed polish for this small application, it is not neccessary....
If you need some help give me a call and I will talk you through it or answer any questions you may have.....
However... my professional suggestion is that you have a reputible cuesmith mask off the area as mentioned above and use professional urethane and do the job right !
Any qualified cuesmith with refinishing experience will be able to blend in the "touch up " to the existing clear on the butt... this would be your best choice if you do not feel good about doin it yourself.....
The reason why I suggested the clear in a spraycan is because you specifically stated you did not want it refinished so I offered you a do-it-yourself solution.....
