Finishing woes

The solid has very good shelf life but not the hardner. Once opened the clock is ticking.

Has anyone ever tried putting the hardner into a can which you can vaccum the air out of?

I have a couple of refillable spray cans which I'm sure I can modify to suck air out of the can rather than pump air in. I think it should work.

I never thought about it, I buy the hardner by the half pint, short money. Good idea to try, let us know how you make out.

anybody here ever used DEFT ??......comes in flat/semi gloss/gloss ?? or do you want the wood to shine like plastic ???

Ive used deft to seal my cues between turnings. Just put a little on a paper towel while its spinning and it seals real good. Deft is a laquer and wont give you the shine of auto finishes.

Thought I Would Add My 2 Cents Worth. My Dad ( A 45 Year Body And Paint Man) Is My Finish Expert By Phone. When I Was Experiencing These Tiny Bubbles In The Clear He Told Me That It Was Solvent Pop. According To Him The Cause Is The Top Layer "skinning Over" Too Quickly Thus Trapping Solvents Deeper Down. At The Time I Was Using A Very Fast Curing Ppg Product Called Strato Clear. Designed For Small Area Repair, Quick Turnaround. I Switched To Omni Clear And Solvent Pop Is No Longer A Problem. There Are Different Hardners Based On Temp. I Also Use Up To 8% Reducer (by Weight) Depending On Temperature. This Allows The Clear To Lay Down With Less Orange Peel But It Is More Prone To Sags And Runs If I My Brain Wanders For A Second. I Buy Hardner In 1/2 Pint Cans And Will Use Out Them For A Month. I Do Refridgerate It And Only Keep The Can Open For A Few Seconds. I Hardly Ever Use More Than 3 Or 4 Ounces Out Of A Can Before I Trash It. Good Luck

Is Omni a product name or is it a PPG product?

Without meaning to criticize.... your post is hard for me to read when you use caps on every word.

Omni and Southern Urethane

The Omni is a PPG product. And to let all know.......the Southern Urethane did work great. The one to one mix makes it much easier to mix small amounts. Oh..........and I sold my first cue yesterday. Kinda made an old man feel good. :)

Do you have any pics of this southern Urethane applied and buffed?
I just found the link for it in my favorites, and i had no idea of where it came from.
I know now :D :p
I looked at the 3:1 high solids, which did you use?

Thanks,

Jon

I have some pics of the cue I sold but don't have them on the computer yet. It did polish out real good. I will see if I can get the pics for you. I'll check the label and let you know which I used. I do know I used the fast activator. Will look when I get home........Bob
