I took my wife to New York for our anniversary. We visited Steinway while we were there. I bought 20 tickets for the 10 ball break and run - it was up to over $1,800.00 that night. I couldn't be the shooter because I didn't play in that night's tournament. So I picked Raphael Debreao to shoot for me and told him that he was getting a healthy chunk of whatever we made. I was asked by several bystanders where I was from. I let them know I was from Maine. At that point Finnegan asked Raphael to go into the back room to talk. When they returned, Raphael broke and made a ball. Everyone was cheering. Finnegan walks up to me and said, "Sorry pal - he didn't make a money ball". I told him that this is the first time I ever heard anything about a money ball on a ten ball break and run. Especially when I was told that each ball made was worth over $180.00. He told me that it was the rules of the house - better luck next time. So that's how he treats visitors. That's the star of the new reality show for you - a lying, thieving P.R.I.C.K.

Hmmm,,, to me, this doesn't pass the sniff test.

I walked into Steinway when I was in NYC for work. I brought my vintage SW that was given to me over 20 years ago. I started banging around.

Disclaimer: I am not a good pool player. I am very lucky to break and run out. However, I can hit balls banging around that look like I might be able to play, but am faking it. ;)

Finn comes up to me,, introduces himself, and asks me if I want to play in his tournament. I declined, but thanked him.

He later starts up a conversation with me and spent a lot of time just conversing with me. He told me he was going to rate me as a very good player had I entered the tournament. Which I totally understand, walking into Steinway with a 30 year old Southwest.

He treated me with total respect, and he was the nicest guy. NYC people have always been super, super nice to me. I will go back there and spend money at my next opportunity.

But I have also gone out of my way to show them respect.

The title of this thread isn't what I would call a respectful way of bringing this to an internet forum.

facebook

Now he's blowing up my Facebook messenger. Threatening me that he is going to report me to the mods for false information. I'm pretty sure I put myself out in the open with the post. He wants to know why I wait a year to post about it. It's because he is in a series - people should know.

Did he at least pay out the pocketed ball?

no

No. He paid nothing. Like I said - he said a money ball wasn't made on the break. I've never heard of such a thing. I took my wife and left. Steaming.

Yea definitely sounds shady to me. I've never heard of that either. I'm sure the ppl watching, that are regs at the event must have been perplexed as well. Did you ask any of them if that was a house rule in previous break and runs?

Even if it was I don't see how the B&R would work? And the fact that he pulled ur guy to side makes it seem....

did you protest on the spot and even after yet no one backed you up? there should of been a room full of people, especially with a $180 a ball BnR going on. I'm just guessing the whole room would of went "WHAT?"

nah

I just left. Everyone looked confused. I was with my wife. Wasn't going to get in a big argument about it. It was the last day of our anniversary trip. She could tell I was angry and asked me to just leave. So I did out of respect for her. It was pretty clear that he was running things. A no win situation.

I do not understand how that can work
you can only break and keep shooting
if you pocket a money ball ?
What were the money balls ?

So, what did your man Raphael say about the situation?
He must be privy to what rules they're using.

If any of the regulars post on here, would you guys have got paid under the same
circumstances?

It was Finnigan in the back room with a broomstick!!!

*sips morning coffee, getting comfortable in my office chair*

hey look, if that is how it went down and thats not the rules then i feel for you. but here's an outside view
a) no ones stiffing me out of a $180 a ball BnR (at a tourney)
b) $1800 on the line? my old lady needs to keep quite (this is a tourney not gambling)
c) if you are saying that you left because it was your Ann and respect for her, then why go to a tourney on your Anniversary?
d) being cheated is being cheated, a show should have nothing to do with it. so again, why wait a year?

yup

That's the point - they are all money balls. Shocked the crap out of me. If anyone doubts the validity of what I stated, just ask yourself what would I have to gain from putting it out there? Nothing. I'm at the very least opening myself to poison remarks and possible problems from the mods. I live 8 hrs away from the man. Nothing to gain. I loved the place though. Probably the best room you could find. Nothing against Steinway. Just the raw deal.

anniversary

We had been in New York for a week - all the anniversary stuff was pretty well wrapped up. I told her the one place I wanted to see on the trip was Steinway. I didn't go for the tournament and wasn't playing in it. I was just stopping in to see the place because I had heard so much about it. She's pretty supportive about me playing pool - she's a Filipina...

year

I waited a year because there was no point in bringing it up. But I just got done watching an episode of the series where F. fouled on the one ball and kept shooting. Then he was calling the other guy a cheat. It just brought it to the surface for me. I couldn't stand it any longer.
