First Inlaid Cue - More Firewood

Well, finally got up the nerve to try out the Inlay Machine on a cue. I screwed up the Rings and the bottom set is about 1/2 an ivory dash off, but didn't notice until I cut the stars or I'd of probably left it plain so it wouldn't be so noticeable.

My next mistake was that I inlaid the stars, then the diamonds. Should have made all of the cuts at the same time. The diamonds between the stars are slightly off center.

Other than that, I guess it's not so bad for the first one of this ring style and first one with inlays I've done. Especially when I compare it to the first cue I ever made.

Guess I'll finish it up and use it for myself for a while, then retire it.

I kept my first inlayed cue, It is hiddeous. I like to pull it out on occasion and show it as a just completed cue to my friends to see the looks of confusion on their faces. It is funny because they don't want to be rude but it looks like crap. LOL Chris.

Kind of a nice looking design and not bad at all for a first try. I would be concerned about the serious "dish" in the handle wood grain though. Might lead to movement down the road. JMO...ICBW! TY and GL. Martin

More firewood

You can always cut off the butt and do it again. Don't you just love to put all the hours in doing the nice veneer/point work, then hose it over with a index reset. Wait till you start doing compound inlays, it will drive you crazy until you find your preferred method of getting things all lined up again. Great start thou, keep beating on it, you have a good eye for proportions. Also, big inlays are easy, intricate is where it's at.
