First Quality Cue

I got antsy and tired of waiting and found pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Ended up ordering a Predator LE4 with the 314^2 from Nielsen's Billiards. (Read about them here on the forum previously). Should be here first half of next week. Can't want to rack 'em!

Cool, you picked the cue of my choice, let us know how it plays.
Joe is a cool guy, bought lots of stuff from him.

Will do! Can't say I'll have a lot of experience to go from with my limited playing time on competitor cues, but I'll give it my best.

I decided to go ahead and send McDermott a email about my experience. I really did want one of their cues, but I'm staying away from proprietary joints. My Current cue has a "Speed-Loc" joint and I couldn't replace the shaft if I wanted. I'll only make that mistake once. Here's my "open letter".

I have been playing pool casually for years and have recently been in the market for a new cue and wanted to pass some feedback along to your company. (This was my first cue purchase over $150) I really liked your products and McDermott gets so many raving reviews about the warranty and customer service. With the warranty and maintenance program, I really wanted to purchase a McDermott cue. I was disappointed to find out McDermott uses their own proprietary joint on their high end cues. This really made me rethink my purchase and pushed me towards a Predator LE4 with a radial joint that I ended up purchasing. My honest feedback for you is: Don't sell any cue over $300 with a proprietary joint. If McDermott would have had any other joint available on the G705 (The one I was drooling over) I would have purchased it. I know your cues can be special ordered with any joint, but waiting for an unknown amount of time for it to be made didn't sound very appealing. I did not like that I couldn't interchange a Predator, OB, Mezzi, or any other shaft on a McDermott cue without tracking down a partial and trying to find someone qualified to put the joint on it. All other high end manufactures I've researched come with a Uni-Lock Quick Release joint or a comparable universal thread. I believe McDermott should follow suite to allow shafts to easily be interchanged down the road if the customer so desires.

Tell us about your cuechanger naturals and AAA LD shafts. How do they compare to 314^2 shafts?

Well, they don't really. Totally different animal besides the fact they are both LD.

The cuechanger AAA-LD shafts are made from the absolute best shaft blanks we can
find, usually around 5% of our shaft blanks make it to AAA.
We focus on playability and great hit and as such they certainly are LD (hollowed out) but
not as LD as 314-2 shafts.

Predator use a bigger hole then we do, way less good wood and a much softer ferrule.

We use a MasonH micarta ferrule and a medium or medium soft tip of your choice, we do not
sell these shafts with hard tips because the extremely dense shaftwood and taper we use allready
give a pretty hard hit and a hard tip would take them over the edge. They rund around $300.

The naturals cues are a plain jane cue with a special A-joint, leather wrap and ringwork on all locations
and we sell it for around $ 650 with a A-LD shaft or around $ 750 with a AAA-LD.
The naturals cues are uncored and have no weight-bolt (hence the name) and because of this are
only made out of woods that will give a good hit, stability and acceptable weight.
