First Snooker Cue Built by Full Splice Billiards

Hello AZ, around three months ago I had a local Snooker player ask me to build him a Snooker cue. The cue has a 30.5 inch butt, and a 31 inch shaft for a total of 61.5 inches. The cue has a Black wrap, but the customer requested that it was covered with finish. The cues shaft was made from the front section of a 1890 Brunswick one peice and is tapered down to 11mm. The shaft even at 11mm is still very very stiff hitting due to the old Growth wood used for the shaft. The shaft had 55 growth rings per inch where it was cut from the one peice butt, which is unheard of today for shaft wood. The cue weighs 18.9 oz and has a 3/8-10 pin, the cues balance point is at the beginning of the cues wrap, which balances this cue perfectly without the use of a weight bolt. The cues forearm is Birdseye Maple, and the cues Butt is Cocobolo. This cue is Full Splice, the cues forearm is finger spliced to the under wrap / handle and the handle continues to the cues bumper, the Cocobolo Butt sleeve is cored.

Let me know what you think, I value everyones input!!!!

I like the figure in the coco . I also like the ringwork and the stacked veneers. Nice looking cue.................

I was wondering, have you ask the player if he wants a shorter ferrule? I wouldn't recommend using this kind of ferrule playing snooker.

Thanks for the kind words, the person I built this cue for wanted something kinda simple and unassuming. He was a pretty good snooker player in his day, and he won a number of tournaments in Canada.

Have a great day!!!

This was what he wanted, because he also plays pool with the cue. If it had been up to me, I would have used a 1/2 inch to a 3/4 inch ferrule like a Billiards cue.

Thanks for the input, and have a great day!!!!

By the way, what is the normal length of the ferrule for a Snooker cue?

I gotta say that I like the way the cue is made, for many reasons :)

The 3/8-10 joint, always gives a real nice smooth, but solid hit and feel to hit with, the design and choice of woods is perfect, especially with the piece of cocobolo that was used,

The black wrap, joint collars and rings work & venners, just makes it a really nice cue stick overall :)

A really nice job well done Craig, keep up the good work buddy :)

Willie

P.S. I'm not sure what the normal ferrule length is for a US style snooker cue, but I think the European/British style snooker ferrules, are in around a 1/6 inches in length.

Hello Wesley, what length should a snooker ferrule be?

Thanks

There is no such a thing. I've seen brass ferrule bigger than 4/10 inch, butt also smaller than 4/10 inch.

To me, a 1/2 inch ferrule for a billiard cue is still quite long. I've got a 5/18 inch ferrule on my billiard cue. I've got a poolcue, but specially bought a billiard cue to play pool.

If he wants to play snooker and pool with the same cue. I would recommend between 4/10 to 1/2 inch.
