Here's a question I'd really like to see some responses to , especially if any of the respected Intructors or Pros here would like to offer insight :

I never hear people talk about this here so . . .

What is 'your' pre-play warm up , if you have one ?

Basically I'd be interested to hear the things you'all do before you start playing.

Some seem to just knock balls around , some nothing more than screw thier cue together ;) some have more elaborate process'.

I seem to be the odd ball in my parts but here's how I start :

Loosen up my back , light stretching (can't do anything with out that ;) ) ,
Start with table length straight in shots , OB-CB about 12" apart ,
Gradually spread OB-CB when that get's locked in till I end up about half the table apart ,
Add some draw and force to that ,
Few minutes of "boxed 1 pocket" ( 9-10 balls placed around corner pocket in a square layout ) untill I can run it a couple times ,
Few breaks (in a row) till the CB can be parked comfortably ,

Then I'm good to go. Seems like alot maybe but take me like 20-25 mins.

Thoughts ?

It's difficult to explain what I do. I throw balls out there and pocket. I like shooting shots that send the cueball around the table because my brain will pick up on how the table plays. I honestly don't care if the balls drop during practice since I'm really just getting a feel and I firmly believe they'll drop once we get started.

When I go to tournaments, everyone else is warming up or whatever... I mingle with some players and sip a cup of coffee while thinking about boobs. Then when it's time to play; I play.

Wow, I do this too. Great minds!

Like Minnesota fats, I never warmed up a day in my life. I just show up , pick the best action, bet as much as I can and get down!

Depending on how much time I have, I try to hit 5 or 6 shots to warm up my stroke (mother drill number 2 for those of you who have been through pool school) followed by a few stroke speed shots to find out how fast the table plays, and 4 3-rail kicks, one from each corner to find out if the table plays short or long.

I have warmed up my stroke, and learned as much as I can about the table I'm playing on...I'm ready to play!
Steve

I like to just roll all the balls out on the table and just start shooting them off. My goal is to start making the easier ones to build my confidence and get the stroke going. Usually 2-3 racks is all I do. When I play, I also seem to play better with people I know and dog it with strangers, no matter how I practice.

I have shoulder problems, so I start by doing a few stretches to loosen up my shoulder muscles a little. I then throw out several balls, and proceed to use a "fist bridge" and a wobbly crooked stroke to shoot balls into the rail until I get the game I'm looking for. :D

I grab a beer after I screw my stick together. I give my stick a few minutes to acclimate to the surroundings (temperature/humidity).

then I rack up 8 ball and shoot til they're all pocketed. 3 to 5 racks of this loosens up my old muscles and gets me set for the night. :)

first things first, check the place for the opposite sex....evaluate which are the most attractive....if there are a number of females (in my case) about, stop when you get to the ones that will take more than 4 beers to be doable....try and evaluate which one's have partners with them that might be, well, not worth the trouble (to cock-block)....compare these mental notes with others on your team....oh, then go back out to the vehicle cuz you forgot your case :) you are there to shoot pool after all........

A couple beers and smokes and I'm good to go
If I'm at a tourney I'll shoot some racks to warm up but if I'm at league I just hang around and BS with my friends till it's time to shoot ( hell it's just for fun anyways)

Time permitting I do the off the far rail back to cue tip straight shot drill till I can nail it 5 in a row. then the same off each side rail.. that tells me quite a bit about my stroke "today" and also gives me a feel for the rails on the table.

If I have more time I play one pocket against the ghost.

I am NOT a screw it together and get in the zone player.. I need warm up LOL

Brilliant!

This is easily the best warm-up method that I have ever seen.
