Pool? Never heard of it..

I've constantly been over drawing my shots or hitting them too hard. I've tried hitting a ball with various speeds to try to correct this, but it's been kicking my arse. Are there any good practice shots that would help with muscle memory? Also, is there a good drill to teach my brain the correct path the CB will take after hitting the OB (with center ball is fine).

If you can obtain a copy of Bob Jewett's PROGRESSIVE PRACTICE DRILLS I think those would be the best for building muscle memory. They contain drills for Stop, Follow, Draw, and Cut shots, all of which start out simple and then become progressively more difficult as you move through the five different levels. These drills also incorporate a scoring system and daily practice log by which you can measure your progress.

Touch in pool ie draw follow and so on, IMO can be greatly enhanced if you play multiple games. Most who only play 9 ball limit their scope of such things.

Some of the best CB control can be learned by playing both One pocket and 14.1. Don't take the advice lightly, it really will help.

So many shots in 1pkt directly focus on CB location. In fact little concern is even placed on other variables. Lots of CB focus in this game.

interestingly enough, I love to play one pocket against the ghost. Sounds like the best so far would be to just...keep practicing. I also just picked up the book "Byrnes 350 shots..." book. some intersting insight into things I didn't consider...but not so much with the drills.

MilwShooter...One lesson with a qualified instructor can help you take care of both of those problems...which are directly related to the quality and accuracy of your stroke...and it'll cost less, and be worth more, than a new cue would be!

limit your backstroke and follow through for less qb movemen/t. extend them to generate more power. try to keep the stroke speed more or less the same for every shot. your cue should accelerate through the qb and move at its fastest during the time of contact

if you need further help shoot me a pm

Couple people touched on some good points; some things you need to do. Find your stroke speed. Mine is my lag stroke. I take this stroke speed and adjust stroke length for my speed. When you get to a certain length, you need to stroke harder.

Shape practice: I like to start with getting down and taking a practice stroke like I'm going to lag to my shape. When I hit an object ball I imagine it to be a rail. So, 3 diamonds back spin I picture lagging to the rail (ball) and back out 3 diamonds. I know this stroke is too easy and for me double the length will give me the weight. Sometimes I have to double the length and speed or various combinations. Get a starting point and don't guess from the beginning.

Screw shots

easy way to learn how much screw(draw) is the 1 to 10 scale i use when coaching snooker, 1 deep screw number 10 extreme top, 5 being middle ball to stun it,

i do a drill where i put a red on the table, then the black back slightly then the pink, blue, brown, green and yellow at about 2-3 inch intervals and then you want to screw to the yellow its 1 green is number 2, brown 2-1/2 blue 3 pink 4 black 4-1/2 it will teach you where to hit the cue ball on certain shots,

set up the 1 ball to pot then put the 2,3,4,5 6,7,8 and 9 ball in intervals back from the 1 and practice the 1 to 5 on the cue ball drill also do it for top shots but then its 6-10 on the cue ball
