did you catch fisher and lee at hill hill from san dieago? 9-10 pm est? this was up there with the most exciting ending ever! fisher needed a mechanical bridge, could have easily fouled the close 8-ball, almost scratched, made the 8, and out of extensions, sunk a difficult 9! amazing! fisher still #1, and still hungry! she went pro in 1983, 21 years later, she still has kept her #1 ranking. unbelievable!!!!!

no,no i have no limits. great accomplishments deserves what happens.

Have to admit that Bernie has cooled down a little bit. Occasional praise of any player is excepted :)

Factual question: was Allison Fisher already number one in what & where at 1983 and has she kept her position through all the way during these 21 years ? Number one snooker player in the world at 1983 and then #1 during all the years until she quit snooker and started pool, and then reached the #1 and remained there since ? Doubt it very much !

Alright Bernie, I have an Allison Fisher story that will warm the cockles of your heart. A little over a year ago, I was have a debate, no...it was a big blowout argument with some guys about tip size. They were ones who kept going smaller and smaller in tip size by initially starting out with a 12.75mm on a Predator (excuse me I have to go puke real quick, be right back) O.K. I feel a lot better now...anyway they ended up taking it down further to the limits of the warranty and then went custom with the tip size even smaller, around 11mm. They said that they really didn't get more spin from the small tip, however, they got better tip placement by being able to see where it was on the CB. Naturally, I said bullshit and the battle ensued. I figured, who better on this planet to know more about tip size than Allison. She grew up on a snooker table learning how to play with a tiny tip, became the world champeen and held the title for many years before converting over to pool, and has been #1 forever. So...I took a pot shot and e-mailed her and asked her what size tip she used for pool and why, almost never expecting a response. About two hours later I got a reply directly from her and she said she uses a 13mm Moori because it gives her much better control. Anything smaller creates too much spin. Now, THAT is a super nice woman in addition to being a classy professional who always carries herself well.

Well, I had the email in hand and went back to the battlefield and the douche bag know-it-alls had the nerve to say she didn't know what she was talking about, can you believe it. If any body knows...it's her! Some guys just never learn, huh?

excellent, excellent post!!!!! that part with predator, and excuse me i have to puke now, excellent! drop dead funny, and right on target!!!, and the part with those male sho-vin-istic pigs, who think allison doesn't know what she's talking about! i would give my left testicle, WAIT! my left pinkie, to see those pardon my language, stupid motherfuckers play her in a race to 11. the final score would be 11-2 at VERY best. it boggles my mind, that people can't see the greatness of allison fisher. she is superb, and as close to perfect as a pool player can be. keep telli'n people what they could do with their scientifically established predator cue! LOVE IT! p.s. for the person enquiring about allison and her #1 ranking. she started pro snooker at the age of 15 in 1983. i beleive she was ranked #1 ALL OF THOSE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, from 83' to 95'!! and of course, she's been #1 here, ever since she moved here in late 1995. actually, she got to #1, early 1996, and has never looked back! the only time she lost the #1 ranking was when her best friend, her pop died of painfull cancer. 2001, she went down to #2. gremlin, maybe you could chime in, to see if these statistics make sense.

This part of your post is what makes you an unbearable nuisance and a detriment to AzBilliards.
This is not an adults only poolroom or a bathroom wall. You should keep your foul filthy mouth off this site. AzBilliards is an informative site that caters to ALL aspects of the billiards society and as such it is frequented by women (classy women) and young children (the under 18 and 16 year old players). You should TRY to show a little class and common sense in your old age. There's NO excuse for your behavior here. If you must regale everyone ad nauseum with every stupid thought that enters your pea brain, for God's sake keep it clean. If you simply MUST post online as you speak in front of your family and loved ones, please go find a 'chat room' or a 'newsgroup' to innundate with your blather... (If you were in my presence and speaking like that in front of my mother, children, grandchildren, etc., I'd warn you once and then "POW".. right in the kisser)... imo
Grow up, for God's sake and use what little brain you have left..

TAP, TAP, TAP !!!

Tap, Tap, Tap. I had to restrict the AZbilliards site from my kids after the above screed, and the even filthier one by D'maker on the 314 thread. Who thinks mindless profanity makes a poster cool and knowledgeable? Answer = no one over the age of 13.

I was at the San Diego (Alpine) Classic for the semi-finals matches and the finals. Allison was unbelieveable in that final rack. However, Jeanette gave her a real gift when she was up 6-5. She got a little out of line on the 7 Ball and ended up scratching in trying to get position. I was cheering for Jeanette, but have the utmost respect for Allison's game, especially when the money is on the line. I don't think Allison is as talented as the top men in terms of sheer ability, but her mental game is on par with anybody, male or female.

Willie, that had nothing to do with being cool and knowledgable. That had to do with upending a sneaky, devious, lying individual like Bill Clinton who got his hand caught in the nookie jar and still denied it to the world. His behind the back name calling and whining can all be found on another forum. Besides, as a responsible parent you should know better than to allow your kids to hang around pool rooms or pool forums. That's what my parents told me, (except that there were no forums). Lotta good it did. You ever swear in front of them?

Allison of course was not #1 in 1996 when she started. But quickly grabbed it in 1997 I believe.

She held it till Karen Corr took it in 2001 by winning every event. Note Allison lost her dad that year so.. I am sure her game was not first priority.

2002 and 2003 Karen has stepped it up splitting most with Allison.

2004 Allison is off again just like 2003..

Very solid player.

As far as the best finish.. I would have to say.. 2001 Challange of Champions
Chao vs Bustamante.

3 great shots.. in the last game.. for 50,000

As well as 2002 final Immonen vs Reyes. a distant 2nd.
Reyes need to win 3 in a row to win..
A great cut on the 9 to force a 1 game playoff.

I was at both events so.. these really stand out.
I would have to say short races are pressure packed.

The tournament stands out.
I can not remember when it does not come down to the 1 game for 50,000
On the men's side.

2000 Ortmann vs Bustamante
2001 Chao vs Bustamante
2002 Immonen vs Reyes
2003 Bustamante vs Horsfall

all one game winner take all.

LOL. Almost fell from my office chair...

Sudden case of Predator-nausea ? :D

Talking about tip sizes...on her site (ask Allison part) she recommends 13mm or 12mm tip. As I understand, she is against using snooker cues for pool, and she didn't recommend any particular cue, except of course Cuetec (now I puke on my former cue...), which she has to unfortunately...

Happens every time...especially when all of the Predator worshippers come together here for their weekly convention and start ballyhooing about their miracle shaft ad-nauseum. Do you have good prices on a case of Pepto-Bismol overseas?

Nowadays the Predator -cult has also grown here in Finland and I guess in following years we're going to have a daily mandatory Predator morning mass excercise at the Helsinki market square, everyone has to bring their Predators or otherwise they will be deflected to low squirt camps for active 24/7 brainwashing & labour where they will learn not to compensate the deflection.

Unfortunately the corresponding product of Pepto-Bismol has been long ago sold out from the markets and will be illegal at the time.

:D

I think I just pissed myself from laughing so hard........

Fisher ..

I have watched Allison play many many times on ESPN, and her talent is good, but not what I would call great. Her mental game though is very good, and most of her wins are because of her mental game and not making mistakes in logic or because of a lack of talent from her opponents. Any top ten 10 men player would dominate a series against her, and I would estimate that she would only beat Johnny Archer 3 times out of 20.

I have only once seen Allison shoot a cut shot with inside low right english to go 3 rails for shape on the next shot, what would be considered a difficult shot. Allison is pretty smart about safeties and executes them well most of the time. Like I said, her brain wins more matches for her than her talent.
I would almost bet that Allison is very good at math, much more so than the average woman.

Actually I am more impressed with Jeanette's game lately, and feel that she works harder at improving her game than her competition, but she still makes logic errors sometimes that loses matches for her.

Women players would help their game more from a Pool logic and strategy course, than just pocketing balls all the time.

Women can not consistently do the hard shots, or play the hard shape or the hard break-outs. If you think these women players are so good, how come they don't have the confidence to play big money matches outside of tournament play? Men players do all the time, in fact, most make more from money matches than from tournaments.

I would like to see the a Pool magazine, such as Billiards Digest showing a guesstimate on earnings on players, tournament and outside of tournament play for a reported total money winnings for the year, that would give you a better idea of really who the best is, all around.
