When the 2014 World Billiards Championship officially kicked off on October 17 in Leeds, United Kingdom, the players around the world chalked their cues. Huffington Post decided to write an article about the ultimate places to shoot pool.

Check out the House of Fish. This Mercer Island home sits right on the water, so the fishing theme of the billiards room fits right in. The wood-paneled walls, fireplace and extremely tall ceilings create a stunning effect. A wood-paneled wet bar sits adjacent to the room, so you can sip some whiskey while watching your friends play.

What a name: House of Fish! I wonder if they really shoot like a fish. :grin-square:

I love the carpet in this room and the fireplace glow. Called "Right on Cue," the intricate ceiling, ornately carved wooden wall fixtures, fireplace and chandelier all combine to create the effect of a classic gentleman's smoking room. Just stepping into this billiards room would take you back to a bygone era when people discussed politics with cigars and brandy.

And for the contemporary architecture lovers, check out this one. A floating staircase leads to the lower level of this estate, which features a wine cellar, bar, lounge area and pool table. The pool table appears to be made of metal, which fits the modern décor. It also has orange fabric that matches the orange seats at the bar; very chic!

On Deloache Avenue, wherever that is in UK, this $37.5 million dollar estate is a work of art, and the billiards room is no exception. The elegant patterns on the table blend perfectly with the rich blue and gold textures found in the carpet, drapes, light fixtures and molding. You'd feel like a royal playing a match in a place like this.

We've all seen the classic painting of dogs playing poker, but this billiards room takes it one step further with a mural of dogs playing pool, drinking cocktails, serving food and holding trophies. The mural even features the classic light fixtures hanging above the pool table!

What's the best pool room you've ever seen, either in person or photograph?

Elvis Presley's pool room at Graceland is kind of cool. Love the overhead lights.

I wonder how many negotiations have been made over a pool table by a United States President at Camp David.

The pool table is the most important feature in a pool room, but this snooker table the Rolling Stones use to bring with them to each of their concerts. I'm not sure I'd enjoy playing pool on it. The big tongue action kind of gives me the creeps. :o

Of course, maybe the pool table you play on is not quite as important as "who" you're playing on it with. The hand carved Federal Eagles are the center of attraction on the American Federal Eagle pool taboe, which retails for $29,500. As they majestically roost on absolute black granite, the pool table also has a matching quartz halogen pool lighting fixture featuring more of the Eagle motif and a 12-cue rack which can hold you personalized mother of pearl inlaid cues. Sexy table, huh? :grin-square:

Adriano Design, based in Turin, Italy, founded in 1997 by brothers Davide and Gabriele Adriano, has generated 54 design process-driven patents and counting.

Check out the Filotto crystal pool table for Calma e Gesso. Oh, those Italians! I wouldn't want Bustamante cracking the rack on this table if I owned it, but I sure could design a pool room around it that would beautiful to look at. .

A new Italian luxury brand called Calma e Gesso has decided that the first product they are going to push is a pool table, but not just any ordinary pool table. Called the Filotto, this billiards table is crafted from crystal.

The table’s legs and base are literally crystal clear. The table is also supported by a thin steel frame to ensure sturdiness. This unique pool table is the result of a collaboration between designers Gregg Brodarick and Adriano Design and weighs over 1,600 pounds.

Head over to Calma e Gesso’s website to inquire about pricing. I guess it mus be expensive if they don't list the price.

They say Diamonds are a girl's best friend. :D

I kind of like this Pro-am Diamond in charcoal :).

I considered the charcoal, also rosewood with black legs like the TAR table, but ended up getting all rosewood.

The billiard room at the George Eastman (founder of Kodak) house in Rochester is very nice. I can't find a good, full-room picture, but here's the table (not the original to the house.) The couch behind the table is on a little raised platform for better viewing.

That is a great photo. Check out the multiple pill vials on the table nearby. :D

The only common theme I saw in all of those rooms is very poor lighting.

For sure. Serious-minded pool players like overhead lights a certain distance from the table. I'm not sure why, but it seems to put one in the zone better when playing.

When a whole room is lit up, even if it is well lighted, it's just not the same as that overhead light.:)

I was expecting you to notice the two-tone cloth from keeping the table in the sun and partly covered.

That is a great photo. Check out the multiple pill vials on the table nearby. :D

Hey, that was a wholesome, family tour! I'm thinking it more likely that they were phonograph cylinders:

A great paneled room deserves an Arcade, fully restored.
The Brunswick Arcades have a fortress-looking effect....
....and I want a table to be solid...it even affects how the rails bank.

Many private billiard rooms settle for faux elegance......
.....but a Gold Crown plays better.
