Fix up an old cue or buy a new one?

Hi, I just wanted some opinions on what you guys would do in this scenario.

I have a Canadian Dufferin sneaky pete, the butt and shaft are straight apart, it's the pin that's the problem. I don't know if it's the facing or if it's bent, but if it's bent, chances are that the repair is going to run me about $100 and a little more. With $100+, I could probably get a Fury for a few more dollars or something that's used.

What would you guys do?

If I had a $100 budget for a cue, i'd be all over Schmelke. They build cues cheaper than I can even buy the wood. And they're great cues for the cash. I'd recommend an entry level sneaky from them.

For $107 you can pick from purleheart, rosewood or bocote. You get your choice of joint & basic tip, taper, weight, etc. There are several add on options as well for extra cash. But for that money, there's simply not a better cue on Earth.

Oh, and it's American made:thumbup: (had to throw that in there in light of the pool or patriotism thread)

Well, I think I'd post a thread on the Wamted/Fpr Sale Forum saying you're looking for a cue in excellent condition for $100. Sit back and see what that would get you. Used cues, at this time, are selling well below average. Also, get an estimate for a cue maker on getting your cue repaired. Then decide what you want to do. Good luck in your quest.

If you buy Schmelke, don't get the big honking metal joint (joint option #1). It weighs a ton and it may not stay true either. Mine didn't. They offer a couple different joints. Go with a more conventional joint.

If you like your current cue, fix it. It may not cost as much as you think, and if it's an older cue it will probably play better than a newer cheap cue. Older wood usually means better, and i heard some of those duff sneakies play pretty sporty. That said, schmelkes aren't bad either, it depends on what you like.

Does your Duff have the proprietary big ole aluminum joint?

I just take those out and install a new pin and insert.
Try the facing first and then ask for an estimate on pin change.
I doubt that it will cost you that much.
If you do like the cue, its worth it. If not, suggestion #2 is a good choice and you can use the Duff as a break cue.

Win win, either way.

And you also get great customer service.

Thats for sure Will.
They sent me nylon instead of linen once.
I offered to keep the nylon and pay for the linen but they wouldn't hear anything of it.

if both halves of the cue are straight, and unless the pin is so bent it's obvious just by looking at it, I'd get the joint-faces redone first.
