Fixing/cleaning the ferrule from scratches

Hello,

After sanding down the edges of a new tip, I accidentally brushed the ferrule quite a bit. Never replace the tip if you are in a hurry! The ferrule is made of some kind of cheap plastic, as it's a very low end cue.

Now, every time I chalk, the chalk residue will stick to the ferrule.
I have tried sanding it down a bit more with finer sandpapers. Doesn't work, the chalk still sticks to the ferrule like it has glue on it... It's really annoying.

Suggestions to "fix" the problem with stuff you can easily get your hands onto?

You need to use really fine grit wet sandpaper. Finish of with aramith ball polish.

Clean the ferrule with a Majic Eraser and rubbing alcohol. Then wax it with a synthetic car wax. DON'T get the wax on the tip. Wrap painter's tape around the leather tip before you wax. Do 4-5 coats.

I can't get my hands on any magic erasers and stuff like that, they don't sell these brands in Estonia. And I don't know the equivalents to them.

I can get rubbing alcohol. I work in a hotel so I might ask the housemaids if they have any polish that doesn't have colour? Or white? Would it work?

Ok then. Use toothpaste then floor wax. Like mop n glo. Or whatever the maids can get for shiny floors. It will leave an acrylic dry shine that nothing will stick to.

This is how to do it. Get some Wet & Dry 600 Grit sandpaper. Mix a few drops of dish washing liquid in a small amount of warm water to act as a lubricant and polisher . Dip a small area of the sandpaper in the liquid and keep gently rotating the ferrule between your sandpaper and fingers applying equal pressure all the way around until the scratches are gone. This is how I do it on a lathe .. but since I assume you don't have one it will take some time , effort, and patients.After the scratches are gone apply some kind of wax to keep it smooth and clean.

You have to sand it as smooth as you can and then polish it back to a shine/gloss whcih removes the finer sanding scratches .

Wax won't help if there are still fine marks for the chalk to get into.

Any scratch removing type polish will work, polishing compounds or even clear coat scratch remover for cars will work. You can usually buy a small tube/bottle at a car parts place (autozone,napa.etc) for just a few bucks.
