flat face vs. piloted.

Anybody ever put a 5/16 by 18 flat faced shaft into a joint that is designed for a piloted shaft? Does it matter? My Viking QR shaft seems to fit nice and snug to my Players butt.(man that just sounds wrong):grin-square:

It will not make any significant difference by putting a flat-faced shaft unto a butt made for piloted shafts. I do it all the time.

thanx Maniac. I figured as much. Guess I'm just not sure of the reasoning behind the whole piloted thing. I'm pretty slow though. It took me 2 years to finally realize that the QR shafts and 5/16 x 18 shafts are interchangeable. I wonder why they don't just call the QR shafts 5/16 x 18?
