The State Championships, $15,000 added, will be played at Planet 9-Ball in Tampa this weekend. Oct 22-24.

Should be a lot of great players there.

I live about 20 minutes from there, I'll be there watching

Only 53 players showed up for the finals of the Florida Pro Tour. With $15,000 added that means that the top 24 players will split the $21,000 in prize money. $5,000 for 1st; $2,000 for 2nd.

Rob Saez leads Charlie Williams in points going into this tournament 420 to 405 so this tournament will decide the points leader. And right now Charlie is looking pretty good to overtake Rob.

On the winner's side for Sunday you have Y. H. Jeong who defeated Saez-7;Wiseman-4;Aquino-2; Bryant-6. And Williams who defeated Chirino-0; Grossman-3; Broxson-2; and Cruz-5. Tony Crosby defeated Thorsten Hohman-6 and Conway is the 4th undefeated player.

Jeong will play Conway and Crosby will play Williams.

Which should make it a battle of the Koreans for the catbird seat Sunday.

Crosby is really playing well but I just think Williams is too much for him. And Jeong is the Korean Champion and he sure does have a smooth game.

I kidded Charlie and told him he messed up and brought in some competition for him when he brought Jeong here.

Sure wish I could be there Sunday. Would love to see Jeong play Williams. I suspect that they will also be in the finals. But my wife does not have my love for pool.

But you can't count out Hohman, Saez, Crosby or Conway. And Kennedy was still alive on the losers side when I left.

Hohman made 3 mistakes against Crosby. One tricky 3-4 combo he had to make the 4 and get position on the 3. He got the po but missed the 4 and Tony ran out. then with the match at 6-5 Crosby, Thorsten had a straight shot on the 7 along the rail and when he drew the CB for position on the 8 in the side he drew too far and scratched. In the next game it looked like he had an easy out but missed a pretty simple 6 ball cut and Tony ran out. Tony won the last rack (I think he broke and ran).

This was just a bad match for Hohman. He never made a ball on his break.

Rodney and Mika couldn't make it due to prior commitments.

Earl, Buddy Hall and Cory Deuel are playing golf in Johnny Archer's golf tournament. Somehow, I just can't imagine Buddy Hall playing golf.

I wouldn't count Crosby out of this one. Having played with both of them, I dare say Crosby is the better player if he is ready to win. I might have to coach him up a little bit :). Last time I was at Planet 9-ball I drew Charlie in the first round. I played mentally overwhelmed and got myself down 6-0. But I ended up taking 4 of the next 7 racks. Tony can do it :).

While all that excellent nineball was going on, I was playing Pete (the old crippled, blind, deaf, house cue repairman) a race to eight in one-pocket and he had me down 7-3. I took a break and let an 11 year old take my place place. He won four in a row and tied it hill-hill, but lost the championship game. I don't think these young kids that have no patience and don't know the strategy, should whip up on us old timers... dammit !
I'm heading out now to watch the Pro finals.
Yeah....that 11yr old is pretty good.....Try playing his brother matt. he is a little older (freshman in HS I think) He is really good also. Not as impatient as his brother but can still do some pretty good shots.

Looks like I missed you again Doug. You guys were playing on the first table past the repair or sales shop? I saw the kids there. Who are they? The last time I was there they were playing Cory on the table in front of the front desk.

The winners side is down to Jeong and Charlie and the one-loss side is down to Hohamnn vs Ben Conway Jr and Troy Frank vs Tony Crosby. That was as of about an hour ago.
