Flying with a Cue

I am in the Army and every time I fly home to see the family I always have issues taking my cue. I don't get why sometimes I can take it on the plane and other times they make me check it in. I generally fly Delta or US Air and I always call the airline in advance to ask and the person i get stuck talking to has no clue what a pool cue is...

Anyone else have this issue or know a solution?
 
3 years back I was allowed to hand carry my cue on board but recently they said there is a new rule that anything longer than 60cm (23") must be checked in. Since then I always have the airport bubble wrap my case and check it in...
Not sure if this is Japan airport specific rule or global.

At least in the USA, the TSA DO NOT ALLOW pool cues as a carry on item. You must check them in. Pack it well also, If you can fit your case in your suitcase then thats even better.

Either check your stuff in, if you don't want to pay their sky high baggage handling fees then you can carry on your case and ship your cue to where your going, its not expensive and gets there in a day or so. Priority mail is about $10 nationwide with 2-3 day, overnight or next day air is usually around $20-40 depending on where it goes.

By the way the TSA doesn't allow them b/c they are considered a weapon...
