Fong Pang Chao 2000 World Champ Gina

1. I took these pics 18 months ago when I was selling this cue on ebay. Next time please PM me before you post my pics up here. ^^
2. Keith Andy stands for Keith Josey and Andy Gilbert.
3. Chao is famous for his ability to win in the high $$ actions in Asia. He beat a guy for US$150K a few years ago in Taiwan before he won the 2nd WPC title.
4. Keith Andy gave that cue to Chao last year as a gift when Chao visited Tokyo for Japn 9ball Open. They put down 15 cues on the pool table and let Chao to try them out one by one. Certainly Chao got the one he wants coz he won 3 national titles since then.

It is awesome info. Thank you very much. Ernie has the same design with and without the silver lines around the points--the silver lines certainly add a lot of class. I was told that Mr. Chao lost his Gina once...but I forget the rest of the story.

Speaking of Keith Andy, what is the deal with Hisashi Yamamoto? Didn't him use to be playing with one?

I always thought Mr Chao is playing with a cue made by Ray from Taiwan. I guess I am wrong... :( Thank you for the info.

Any link to some sites with info about cues the Taiwanese players are using?

Thank you so much.

Richard

Chao used to use Ray's cue after he stopped using the Ginacue, but for some reason he switched over to the Keith Andy.

The most popular cue among the Taiwanese pros is undoubtedly Southwest. Yang has 2 SWs that he uses I think. Hsia uses a Tim Scruggs. Lee Kung Fung I think's using a Ginacue, but I've seen him with a McDaniel. Wu Chia Ching's using a SW. Fu's using a SW. Lai, semi-finalist a few years back, used to use a McWorter, not sure what he's using now. Some players use Ray's cue, but not sure exactly who. Chang Pei Wei using a production cue. Lu Hui Chen is using a JossWest.

Anyone look at the first site for KA cues and see the 980,000 yen cue. Really nice cue no doubt, but 10 grand US? I should take my cue and sell it there, I would almost be assured $5000+ with those to compare with, perhaps alot more.

Yang has only one SW which is an Ebony- Ivory 6 pointer. He sold the ebony-ebony sw to a dealer.
Hsia uses Timmy's cue.
Lee Kung Fung used SW a few years ago and he switched to QJ-98 Bill McDaniel.
Wu and Fu are using SW cues indeed.
Lai is still playing with McWorter.
Chang Pei Wei uses Ray's cue.

Chao left his 1st Ginacue in the bus station while he was getting on the bus to a tournament and never saw that cue again. He bought the ebony-ivory one and won the 2000 world championship. He then sold the ginacue to a local poolroom owner and play with a house cue before Ray gave him his cue for tryout. He played with Ray's cue for a while and stored it in his cue case after Keith Andy cue company promised to give a cue for free.

Thank you very much for the story.

Would you happen to have a picture of the cue Ray made for him? I have heard that it features some dragon-shaped inlays, is that correct?

By the way, I remember seeing Yang's black/white SW. I saw another one in the BCA Championship in Vegas from a dealer from Texas. I remember Shin Mei Liu was there trying to make some offers on buying the cue. It was a rare oppertunity to see a SW with ivory points. That cue was truly beautiful!

Correct me if I am wrong. Kung Fung Lee received his Bill McDaniel after he won the Challenge of Champion, is that correct?

Speaking of Bill McDaniel, Hsin Huang, who was originally from Taiwan and is now competing on the WPBA tour (ranked #15) received a very fancy Bill McDaniel a few months ago. She was playing with a plain black ebony Layani cue when she came 4th in this year's BCA Championship.

The interesting thing is she is now going back to using her Layani cue again despite that fact that the Bill McDaniel is a lot more fancy.(It features ivory points with silver and abalone inlays into ebony, with ivory joints and Bill's fancy stitch rings at BCDE.)

In your opinion, how does Ray's cue play?

Thank you very much. It certainly is a lot of fun talking to all the knowledgable folks here in this forum.

Take care.

Richard

I've seen Yang with at least 4 different SW's. They could be SW knockoffs though, but somehow I doubt that.

By Timmy you mean Tim Scruggs, or some other Tim?

Thanks,
Roger

No, they are GENUINE South West cues.
Yes, Timmy Scruggs. :D

For ppl who are interested in Ray's artistic works. Check out these fotos~ :p
All cues were done by hand. No CNC or Pantagraph.

It just goes to show that a perfect stroke isn't necessary, look at Bustamante and his stroke, it aint too smooth either but he makes it work.
Yep, sniper. That's a point that is hard to get accross to most folks. Chao's stroke is perfect almost by definition. So is Bustamante's, Nick Varner's, Efren's, Parica's and many other strokes which are not cookie-cutter but get the job done better than straight ones. If you suffer from "straight stroke neurosis" (S.S.N) however, you wouldn't understand that.

Take a look at Cue 725 , or any other plain cue on there for that matter. 240000 Yen  Which converts to approximately 2300 USD

I've never seen plain jane cues from any cuemaker for that kind of money! Maybe because that's the market for cues in Japan? Incredible.

Tim.
Plain Tads are around the same right? Again Asian market...
