This is very sad news indeed, sportsnet usually covers WPM, WPC, and the US Open. But now you can watch poker three or four times a day instead:(
 
wth what about the world pool championship in manila? i don't even wanna watch the masters. this leaves me no option but to purchase a satellite somewhere ;)

I've E-mailed TSN regarding the lack of cuesports on tv as well. You were fortunate enough to get an e-mail back. It's important we remind the networks we're paying money to every month what we'd like to see on tv.

our canadian television is an absolute joke,have no idea why i bother to pay for cable.like who the h.e.l.l. watches pins game bowling.wow

i've actually emailed sportsnet before and they are fast at responding...it usually sportsnet that broadcast billiards, the only thing tsn broadcast is the Border Battle (is this still running) and a few years ago the canadian championship.
 
Thanks for letting us know what's going on. Remember when they'd show pool at least 3 times a week, and sometimes even 2 hours back-to-back. Even if they would sometimes rerun the same matches over and over, it was still great to have so much pool on TV.

It was watching the USOpen and World Pool Masters that taught me how to play pool. It raised my level from a banger who could shoot kinda straight, to someone who at least understands position play, strategy, etc. even if I can't always (or often) do what I want. From watching those broadcasts, I was able to learn what i should be trying to do, and that showed me what to practice, and it helped my game so much.

I used to love watching poker, but how many NLHE tounies can you actually watch before they all seem the same. Pool is so much more interesting to watch than endless NLHE. Shame.
 
You could look around for a sports bar with the U.S. feed.

In Toronto, the bar at 49 St. Clair West had the U.S. OLN channel. (Don't know current status). I watched the Tour of Spain bicycle race there a year ago.

As mentioned, this is all very dissapointing.Sportsnet had earlier started to show the 2006 World Pool Master re-runs,however, it cut out after the first two matches.I think perhaps Mr.LaChapelle is bullshitting about getting the rights, seeing that they ALREADY had started to show it.I guess that the ratings really sucked, so it was pulled???

I purchased(a few years back) a digital cable box, PRIMARILY so I could get all four sportsnet channels, so this really sucks.I really looked forward to the WPM, WPC and US Open every year.With the current IPT woes and now this, it's a bluesy time for us hard core pool junkies:o .

It's not entirely BS RJ. On monday TSN showed the World Trick Shot Masters, the trick shot event that is held the day before the tournament. I'm not sure what happened over the course of the last couple of months but I doubt that Sportsnet would purchase the rights just to not show the programming. That's what TSN does.

I actually sent an email like this last year and got a similar response from them. Next thing I knew the WPM started in November and christmas night they aired 7 hours of pool back to back.

If they haven't shown anything by december then I'll be a bit concerned. Right now I think their response is warrants optimism.

As an aside I am going to use opportunity to complain about TSN. I hate it that they have the broadcasting rights to the Mosconi Cup. It is absolutely wasted with them, the only time it is on is if there is no hockey, baseball, soccer, rugby, poker, scrabble, basketball, eating contests, burping contests, racing, NASCAR, strong man competitions, spelling bees or football available.

It's just such a waste. It's akin to hindu's finding the holy grail, they'd only use it as a wine glass.

I thought poker was poker and not a sport. I can't ever remember seeing the poker results in the sport page in our local paper, I have tho seen it in other sections of the news.

Thanks Cameron, I hope they do eventually show something.I've got 28 matches recorded on DVD from the 2004 and 2005 WPM and I was looking forward to the 2006 WPM.

TSN is rather poor compared to Sportsnet as they'll show the Border Battle (Canada vs. USA) over and over and over,a little Mosconi Cup and trick shot videos and that's it.Do they still show the CURRENT International Challenge of Champions on TSN?I've yet to see anything from the 2005 and 2006 ICC's.

Ive recorded these 14 International Challenge of Champions matches from the TSN "Classics" channel,which is another TSN channel alltogether.

why should poker get the spotlight

I watch tsn and couldnt beleive that a bunch of people sat around in an arena just to watch a bunch off idiots sit at a poker table and play poker.I fell asleep almost through the whole thing.I like pool better and atleast there is more action in pool.I am canadian and would love to see some of the IPT aired on the tsn instead of poker,tennis or bowling on there.

I do remember earlier this year them showing the 2005 ICC. I don't think I saw all three matches, just the final with Engert and Chao.

My guess is that we will see the WPM in November. Fingers crossed.
