This question came about yesterday when a guy show up in a Tank Top & what appeared to be those Nylon Short Work Out Shorts, and was not allowed to Play Pool in our Recreation Center.

There has been a NO TANK TOP Rule as long as I can remember, but many of the Rules are RARELY ENFORCED....

So my question is:

Was wondering if some of the Larger Tournament all of a sudden Instituted a DRESS CODE for Players, would You Participate. I am talking Tournament where a Fist Place Pot would EXCEED $1,000.00

Nothing to SEVERE but maybe No Shorts, T-Shirts, or Sandals. Only Shirt with Collars. ;)

You've gone from "it's been a rule for a long time" to asking "if they all of a sudden instituted a dress code"? That's like comparing apples to lasagne. Fortunately, they both taste good.

If a proper dress code was duly noted ahead of time, no tournament pool pool player should have a problem with it. If I showed up to a tournament, and I didn't have the right attire (say, I had a T-shirt on), and the tournament flyer was clear that I was supposed to have a collared shirt, I'd go and buy one and get in the tournament.

There's a dress code in every pro events, the Joss Tour, all of the BCA National event. I'm sure it's the same with the VNEA and APA as well.
So, it's nothing new. It's usually collared shirts, no ripped jeans, no open toe shoes.

Every sanctioned tournament I've ever been to had some sort of dress code. Sometimes it's very loosely enforced, but it's there. I don't have a problem with it.

Well most of the Pool places where I live SERVE Beer, Wine, or Alcohol. So you can not bring your Gun in when you come to Play Pool.. According to A.R.S. ( Arizona Law State Law). Think that is like a DRESS CODE.... ;) What you can't wear or Pack....;)

Honest Peeps obey that Rules I think, Criminal never obey the LAW. ;)

Do you play pool at the O.K. Coral?. :D

Well if you ever visit Arizona you will see many openly packing handguns, as it is an Arizona thing, plus legal.

Also you will see many Business with Signs saying No Gun, No Weapons Allowed. Because they do not want people bringing Guns, or Weapons in to their businesses.

FYI States With Open Carry Laws, or Concealed Weapon Permit Laws have much lower crime rates than place like New Your City & Lost Angeles.
;)

No I do not Play Pool at the O.K. Correl, and play most in my Community Pool Room. All of our Community Rooms, Facilities, Golf Courses, are posted NO GUNS...

Also the Average where I live is 64-to-about 69.... YEARS YOUNG.... ;)

As many arguments as I've seen break out in poolrooms, and fights for that matter, I can't imagine people having guns on them. In my area, people would be getting shot on the regular for sharking and bad racking someone :)

Just remember er Dishonest People, and Criminal NEVER Obey the Law. If everyone did we would not need Cops, Jail, Judges, or Prisons.

Think we got far too many Laws, and maybe just need the 10 Commandants ;)

arizona

I used to live in AZ back in 00....i moved there just for the hell of it with a few friends... i really enjoyed living out there. Always something new to do. I did not like the fact that most of the new people i met out there carried guns. I am anti guns, and to be honest somewhat afraid of them. i do sometimes miss az though. Filiberto makes the best AZ burrito ever. And the salt river i miss deaely. Good times out west

There's toeing the line and then there's blatant disregard for the rules. I've been known to show up at tournaments wearing collarless shirts but they're not t-shirts. You show up in a tank-top and you're begging to be told to change even in Summer time.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they instituted some kind of dress code at every tournament. BTW, we even have a bar tourney locally (pretty damn big bar and part of a national chain) that has a tourney dress code... no tank tops, no muscle shirts, no underwear showing above your pants waistline, no ball caps, etc,)

I think tournaments reflect a lot of what people think about poolplayers... if we show up looking like shit, they're going to think we're shit. Just the way the world works.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think a man should be judged by the way he dresses or wears his hair or anything like that, BUT, I'm not the general population, and the simple truth is that the general population DOES judge people by the way the appear.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing decent looking clothes to play in a tournament, and to me, that includes, no tank tops, no logo shirts that might be offensive, no backwards ball caps, no muscle shirts, no sandals, etc. We all have an equal bitch that pool has a less than positive image. Let's improve it! If players want to compete in touranemtns, then require that they dress and groom themsleves like mainstream people when they play. When I had my pool room open, players were required to dress what "I" considered appropriately for my tournaments. I only had a couple of players that had problems with this... personally, they were welcome to not attend as far as I was concerned.

Later,
Bob

No Problem...

I would welcome some kind of dress code, simple, collared shirts, no shorts, sandals, tanktops, ball caps etc...easy.

I just don't get why every time I drive by a filiberto's i NEVER see any dogs or cats running around. NEVER! Hmmmm.? :p

I used to have to wear ties, suits, dress clothes, etc. and I HATE it!

Pool is recreation and fun to me.... And I am not having fun if I have to wear "certain clothes".

I have been around the "country club" types in the past. If you ask me, the tank-top comfortable clothes wearing types of people are a whole lot more fun to be around.

If the sign says shirts and shoes required, then don't wear pants!
