I made up a small number of special edition "Derby City Classic" cues for the tournament again this year. My normal dealer Kevin Whitt, who used to have the billiards on-line store "nineballking.com" took a teaching job and was unable to have a booth at the tournament. I did let a dealer have a few of them on consignment, but I think he was charging a pretty good mark-up on the cues and did not sell any. He was also in one of the rooms off the main hall and did not get the traffic that Kevin had in the past. I'm sure if I'd wanted to carry a few of them around with me during the tournament and showed them around, I would have sold them all! But that would not have been fair to the vendors who paid for booth space and having been in that situation several times myself, I wasn't about to screw over those vendors. It's just not my style! Well I'm left with 6 quite nice "Merry Widow" style cues, with the Derby City Classic logo CNC engraved around the butt sleeve. All of the cues have turquoise dashed ringwork at all 5 locations, Irish Linen wrap, engraved radial style pin and are signed and dated like all my custom cues. There 3 birdseye maple (2 stained, 1 natural), a Cocobolo, an East Indian Rosewood and a Macassar Ebony. All have figured maple butt sleeves with the Derby City Logo CNC engraved around the butt sleeve and stained with a black stain, then sanded so that the stain highlights the engraving and enhances the figure in the wood. I'd also like to add that I've made some large strides in my finishes, going back to an automotive clearcoat, which buffs up much better than the UV cured finishes I've been struggling with foir the last 2 years!
Getting to the point, I'd like to get some of my cues in the hands of some of the AZB'ers. I feel that my cues are on par with cues that are bringing quite a lot more money than I'm willing to sell mine for, and I feel that if a few AZB'ers got a hold of one and tried it out, I'd probably sell quite a few cues in this little community. I normally sell my "Merry Widow" style cues for $350-$400, with one shaft, depending upon the particular wood used, and that's without the extra engraving work. The "Derby City Classic" cues may become collectable, just because of the logo!
In order to make this an attractive offer to the forum members, I'm willing to sell these cues for just $250 with one shaft and $325 with a second shaft if you mention this offer in AZ Billiards! I also have one Cocobolo "Merry Widow" with no "DCC" engraving, (Cocobolo butt sleeve), black & white dashed ringwork and a G10 engraved radial style pin I'll let go to an AZB'er for $400 with two shafts!
There are some cuemakers who get close to $1000 for cues that IMHO do not compare to these cues! For many years I've been building cues for professional players. Four of which are already in the "Hall Of Fame" and I expect there will be more as time goes on. Don't mean to brag, but I know how to build a cue fit for a top pro! Why not see what you're missing?
I just tried to upload some pics with this, but I guess the files are too big for the system. If anyone wants pics, send me your email address and I'll email them to you, until I can figure out how to make the files small enough to upload.
Just more hot air!
