For the ones that have had Lasik....

Age

Age is the main thing to consider when getting lasik! If you are within the 22 - 35 age, then you will absolutely love lasik! I haven't had any problems at all with it.

However if you are above 35 you can't defeat time and the ageing process! So you have to make sure you ask all the right questions when getting lasik. Sometimes people just trade nearsightedness for farsightedness. You really have to ask all the questions when going into the doctor.

They even have a new proceedure that has been out a few years where they put a permanant contact in your eye, and they can remove it and put in another if your perscription changes!

They are making a lot of advances in this field. The main thing is to do your homework.

One thing I can also recommend to anyone in this sport is to get on a good eye vitamin regiment! It will do wonders for your eyes! Also if you have had lasik it will do wonders for keeping your vision in tack!

5 years later and I still have 20/10!

what technology are you guys talking about that have had the great results. Is this the new one with the eyemapping, i think its completely bladeless, all done with a laser?

The technology that I was talking about has been around for nearly 10 years, but wasn't available to the United States until after it had been available in Canada for years.

The area being treated without this technology was limited to about a 6mm diameter. So, for those whose eyes dilated past or approaching 6mm, they would approach the area out of the treated area. Result: halos. That is, the light entering the non-treated areas would be blurred. The better technology is able to treat a much larger area.

I had mine done 6 years ago, and there's better and better technology today.

Had Lasik a few years ago, best money I ever spent. I did have a problem in the left eye which needed re-touching, but other than that, I have no complaints. I played while wearing glasses previously (<-- see avatar), and it does take a little time to get used to seeing the balls without that distortion (not long, though).

-djb <-- thinks anyone who is a candidate and can afford it should have the procedure done

I had lasik about 4 years ago, and I'm one of the only people I've heard that had a less than perfect experience.

I had very poor eyesight, with 6.5 diopters of astigmatism in my left eye.

I bought a lifetime correction package, but at the time of the procedure I was 25.

I do have good vision (I can actually see where I'm going now), last time I got a checkup about 20/40. However, several side effects happened:

1. I lost a lot of my night vision.
2. Dry eyes
3. (this is the worst) I see multiple "ghost" images of everything.

When I shoot down table, I literally see 5 to 7 ghost images of the object ball. I'm trained to know which is the correct one (and it is more clear), but this can definitely account for some error in shooting. (no more long range iron site rifle range shots any more either).

If I'm outside and look at the moon, or any light source such as a movie theater screen, stop light, or road sign at night, it is clear but multiple ghost images to either side.

Because of the poor eyesight I had prior to the surgery, I believe they purposely didn't cut enough off (better to under cut rather than burn too much I guess). They offered to fix it, but as I'm 29 and you can only have the procedure done a few times, I'm toughing it out.

I am still happy I don't have to wear glasses though.

I had mine done up in Vancouver, BC... back in ~'99... before the procedure was approved here in WA. It cost me only $950 for both eyes... money well spent!!

I was 50 in '99... and had been wearing glasses since I was 20... and was wearing bifocals at the time. My vision was 20/400 overall and with a bad astigmatism. My eyesight afterwards was 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in the other... with 20/20 overall... and still is (had my vision checked recently).

My near vision (for reading) got worse as predicted by the doctor... I use 2.0 diopter drugstore glasses for reading... and my vision up to infinity (20 feet) needs minor correction.. so that why I recently purchased a pair of shooting glasses locally like the ones that Grady wears. They work beautifully. They provide a slight correction for a range of ~3 feet out to ~14 feet... designed specifically for shooting pool. :)
