For those who have published

I couldn't find a suitable category for this request so I figured I go directly to those who may have experience.

I've written a book that requires "pool" graphics. I'm looking for the skills of a talented computer graphic artist who also understands the nuances of the game.

If you have published before using a graphic artist or if you know of someone who posesses such talent, I'd like to talk with them about completing my project.

Any recommendations would be helpful.

What type of graphics did you want to do, what software do you already have and what does your budget look like?

I do have one request, and that is if you do table diagrams, make them accurately scaled. I'm really irritated by shot diagrams where the balls are the size of basketballs, relatively speaking.

Bob, there are very few table diagrams in the conventional sense.
I don't discuss strategy so perspetives are not likely to be full table views.

Right now all I have is power point and I am not proficient.

My budget is very limited.

I don't understand what sort of graphics you want to do, but one way to get table shots if you need any is to do screen captures from Virtual Pool. I think there is a free demo version. It gives realistic 3D views.

If you have other simple graphics to do, you may want to get local help with PowerPoint -- find someone who can show you how to do it so you can modify things later.

Good luck.

What type of graphics do you want, bitmap (photos) or vector (drawings)?

Is your page layout going to be consistent throughout with the graphics being the exact same size and aspect ratio?

Will your graphics all be at the same perspective, i.e., top-down, 45 degree angle, etc?

Will all your images be of the table? Will they all be the entire table? Or will some images just be sections of the table?

I am a photographer and also well schooled in producing graphics for print and/or web. I can tell you that, no matter what your answers are to the above questions, bitmaps can be done far easier and much cheaper than vector art. If your graphics are not consistent throughout, vector art is going to cost you big time. Although you might be able to find some art student who will do it cheap, or even free for credit in your book. But remember, you get what you pay for.

I also have a pool table and can shoot any ball setup at any angle except from directly above. Of course the shots would be professionally lit and at the resolution your printer needs.

I'm very proficient with Photoshop (I used to teach it) and can make your images the exact sizes and aspect ratios your layout demands. If you want text and/or drawings, such as circles, arrows and other visual aids overlaid, I can do that too. Hell, I can put your reflection in the cue ball if you want.

As for vector art, I can do that too, but ain't good enough for a project like this.

There is much more you should know before you hire anybody. It wouldn't hurt for you to read a book or three (or more) on the subject of publishing and printing, especially in the area of graphics. There's a lot to know.

PM me if you have any questions.
