Formal Retraction, Recision and Apology to Dan Louie

I just got a call from Dan Louie who got called by 2 'friends' that I had posted that he was not interested in playing in the IPT. He has not even read it himself, but was told by these 'friends'. Dan was very upset at me, because that was not what he said when we talked. He said that he was NOT interested in playing in these $2000 qualifiers and that by me saying that he was not interested in playing in the IPT, it might kill his chances with Deno and Kevin to be considered for the tour ever.

I humbly apologize as that was certainly not my intent. Danny has been a friend of ours for a long time. At one point we would kid each other about being brother and sister (as so many have thought).

Who would NOT want to play in the IPT??? That is a given (except for MacGuy, Gabber, etc., who have made their opinions known). If you notice below, I did not say he was not interested in playing in the IPT. I knew he would have wanted to, and that is why I was so incredulous in him not taking the $2000 shot for what will probably be over $100k. Everything mentioned in that post was about the $2000 qualifier.

He also asked how his name got involved in the first place. My little fantasy was that Parlor Billiards would hold a qualifier and that he would be a front runner there to win it all. Here is the thread that started it by KingCarom where he is mentioned:

New Room Review: Parlor Billiards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parlor Billiards opened Tuesday this week in my hometown of Bellevue, Washington, and I am thrilled that we finally have a room of this caliber in the Seattle area.

20,000 square feet & 44 tables large, with the main floor composed of all black Brunswick 9' & Pro 8 Gold Crown 4's, with Brunswick Metro 8 footers on a separated floorspace that will be reserved for league play. Additionally, there are three private rooms, one of which is pictured below, & heated Billiard and Snooker tables.
The food and drinks were great. We had Antipasta, Bacon Wrapped Prawns, and a Pepperoni, Mushroom, and Sausage Pizza after a few rounds and many racks.

To top it all off, Dan Louie is the house pro. Dave Lauer, who owns Emerald City Cue Repair, is the Pro Shop Manager; His cue repair work is fantastic. The staff is plentiful, attractive (meow) and well dressed, showing each new table renter how to properly use the Sardo and how to use the waitress paging at each table...on and on. Talk about firing on all cylinders!

Check out the photo's. Pictured are Scott Leach, A fellow team captain and Gene Birkelund, our league operator here in Seattle, who I shall say played pretty sporty tonight! ...but still ended up paying

If you live nearby or get up to the Seattle area soon be sure to check it out:

Here is the actual quote of what I posted, bolded for emphasis:

Yes, there was a private party there last week. Mike Massey kicked it off doing his boot jump shot and finger pool. I was lucky enough to be the only winner against him in the challenge pool, when I broke and ran against him.

This is a martini bar, with chill strips that run down the length of the tables. I think there are 29 different types of martinis that run around $9. Pool is $16/hr. The food was awesome.

Btw, I thought Dan would want to have Parlor Billiards host an IPT qualifier. Turns out he doesn't even want to qualify himself! He showed up tonight at our little Friday night bar table tournament and I don't even know if he got in the money. I took 5th (yay!). Anyway, we talked extensively about the IPT. If anyone can win a qualifier, he should be able to. We even told him to get staked if he didn't want to put up his own money (which he doesn't).

Looks like Parlor will get a good crowd from its location. I hope they do well. Only criticism...they told Dave he couldn't hug anyone.

Pardon me if I wasn't clear that his intentions were not to qualify for these $2000 tournaments, but that he may possibly at a later date (which wasn't clear to me either!) . He really DOES want to play on the IPT. I have mentioned at every turn how deserving a player Danny is and if anyone can win one, he could.

Dan, I apologize if I did you any irreparable harm. Deno and Kevin, I hope you consider Danny to be a front runner in any future qualifiers. Sheesh, I just couldn't figure out how he was going to get on the IPT without playing in the qualifiers, but maybe he will do the $1000 ones.

And for any of those 'friends' that run to Danny with stories that I am trying to do him in, I would really appreciate a nice PM first so that we can discuss on a level playing field what that remark really meant! I was pretty incredulous that he did not want to play in the qualifiers, and that was all that meant.

I told Danny I would make full reparation, so here it is. Maybe you guys can bring it to Dan's attention and repeat it word for word this time.

To Deno and Kevin T,

The only thing Dan Louie would do to the IPT is make about 85% of the members shake with fear. Dan would, without a doubt, raise the bar for all players.

My humble opinion,

Though I agree that Dan's a proven winner who'd be a great addition to the IPT, I'm not sure I understnad your post. Are you asking them to consider waiving his entry fee into the qualifier? If not, KT and Deno have nothing to do with whether Dan qualifies, and that's to the credit of the IPT, which will fill its player roster on merit. For those not yet on the roster for 2006, there are qualifiers to fill the eight remaining spots, which will bring the IPT roster to 150 players, the number intended.

There are only two ways to qualify for the 2007 tour.

1) finish in the Top 100 in the 2006 IPT rankings
2) earn one of the 50 spots that will become available at the end of 2006 through the IPT qualifying tournaments.

This system, which is to be admired because it is truly objective, means that what the powers of the IPT think of a player has no bearing on whether a player makes it onto the IPT roster.

Give the IPT credit here for removing the politics from the qualifying equation.

Well said. Of course, there are no politics in the future selection process, just an explicitly stated and objective qualifying system equally available to all comers.
Hence, your commnets will have no bearing on Dan's chances.

Yes, I know it has no bearing, but in Danny's perception, it did, and for that I apologize.
