For me, B would give the right angle to make the 4 and get to the 5.

P.S. - to sum up, I find the 2 ball with outside English to be an easier shot than the 3 ball from the kitchen to get good position on the 4 (because I'm closer - dweebs like me need to be close).

P.P.S. - I don't think the long 3 ball with position on the 4 is the type of shot my teacher (you know him) would say is a hanger - I think even he thinks it is a missable shot, especially with the positional requirements. JMO

Maybe Im missing something here (wouldnt be the first time) I was talking 3 ball position at I, which is no where near the kitchen. In fact its on the same half of the table as the 3. I would in no way want to play shape on the 3 by leaving the cueball anywhere close to being in the kitchen because like you say it is deffinately missable.

Of course, if you know my game, any shot is missable :D :D :D

Okay...I am gonna look stupid here...but I am good at that anyway.

Why does hitting it at H with a medium speed put you on the other side of the 2?...
Good question, Shorty. I just looked at the table and found the letter corresponding to where I would like the cue ball to be. ;)

I'm pretty much with Willie. I think hitting it around B will bring it down table farther, though I don't think I would go as far as the rack. Just wouldn't want to play close to the 4, and definitely not behind it.

I didn't pay attention to the markings on the cueball. I want the cue bal to END UP at B on the table. I want a slight angle on the 4 so the cue ball will drift to the right for the 5 ball.

Woody,
Actually position I and position E are certainly makeable, fairly easy shots (definitely in the category of "deserve to lose if you can't make it") - the rest of the positions leave "missable" shots. I was really only talking about the other positions as far as leaving a too-difficult-shot. Both Colin and I conclude that position from 3 to 4 is much easier to obtain from the other side of the 3 ball (cutting the 3 to our right, avoiding all of the traffic on the top half of the diagram, giving several easy routes to the 4). With I and E there seem to be more risks, but really not bad choices overall. Please note I did not say they were bad choices, just that I would choose to do something else - I'm no world beater (as you'll find out when you quit ducking me, and come over to Indy some weekend).
