Found a Cue in a Bar...WWYD? Long Post!

So i'm playing my league matches, and when get done with my first game, I realize my team mate just started a new warm up game w/ someone on another table, so I head over to tell him he's up, and he tells me to finish his game. I didnt wanna walk back all the way over to my cue (cuz i'm lazy like that i guess?) :p so I grab a "HOUSE CUE" and quickly see the black joint! wow ok? :o look toward the bottom, and sure enough it had beautiful birdseye maple butt, no sig, no logo, no nothing! I proceeded to beat the crap out of the guy, and then shook hands and headed back to my table with it, but not before I stopped to check it out under an unused table light. WOW! beautiful Maple/purpleheart, w/ lots of birds-eye in butt. thing felt so nice!! and played great!! I always hear about people finding sneaky petes in bars, but I knew this was a custom. It was so hard to let go of, but...yeah I did it....I turned it into the team we were playing. I would have felt guilty for taking it, and knew SOMEONE had to miss it.

and as I walked out the door I hear one of their team members say "Man if no one picks this thing up, I just found a new cue!" :eek:

Was it good carma that brought it too me in the first place? have I made a mistake by letting it slip away?!

here's my question to you..

What did you find? What did you do? (i'm not here to judge!!) :D
 
You did the right thing- if somebody else does the wrong thing, are you going to feel sorry that you weren't the one who took advantage of the opportunity when you had the chance?

Integrity comes with "no strings attached"- you have to walk your own line and feel good about yourself regardless of the actions of others.

Your best bet would have been to turn in in to the house where you could have claimed it if no one else returned for it in a reasonable period of time (fair enough), but the point remains that you made an attempt to get it back to its proper owner- you shouldn't feel badly about that, and you didn't make a 'mistake'.

I've returned cell phones, wallets with cash in them, jewelry- if it ain't rightly mine, I ain't keeping it- I didn't do it (necessesarily) for the other person, I did it for myself.

I would have kept the cue. Finders keepers, right? JK
I agree with the above post. Turning it into the bar would have probably been best, but lets just hope the rightfull owner gets their cue back.

Nice. You just turned a $400-$600 cue over to a bunch of thieves. And to compound the error, once you heard of the theive's intentions, you did not march back over and relieve them of it.

Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have even CONSIDERED taking the cue, and I would certainly not have handed it over to some anonymous team. I would have handed it to someone behind the bar, (after first asking the worker's name...) and followed up by asking if I could post a "found cue" flyer.. (No description, of course..)

I would certainly hope if I ever lost a cue, someone would be looking out for me better than you did.

I should have mentioned a few details, 1st the bar was very small. matter of fact it was inside a bowling alley. 2nd I turned it into the team, because I knew there TL to be a stand up guy. (he's not the one that said it) and since I know him I can follow up with it. (I just dont think it would matter anyway, its not like I would ever see it again) 3rd the only person running the bar that night was a not-so-nice bar tender chick. (who seemed like she could care less about anything, let alone a custom stick someone lost.) I dont feel bad for doing the right thing. I just wish I could have found the owner myself. But I he wasnt in the bar and I had to leave, so I did what I thought was best for the cue, and its owner.
 
I would have held on to the cue to look for its owner, I don't trust an opposing team to do good work, unless I know the team. Turning it over to the bar is probably the best of solutions, but keep in mind who you gave the cue too, and next time you play league there, make a mention of it and see if someone claims the cue was theirs. Spread the word, it got the infamous Gina cue back to its rightful owner, just hope this owner isn't a complete *****.
 
I play on a few leagues and since I am usually one of the last to leave I always check to see what is laying around. I have found cues, cue holders, cases with cues, phones, jackets, and etc. I take the item with me and usually the owner will get the item back within a week or so.

I would put out some feelers and if the owner comes around I would tell them who I gave it to.
