Found the best thing to burnish and slick up a shaft.

I'd say depends heavily on what ever leather you think people buy. I have a drawer full of scraps that trump anything that would come on a store bought work glove. Been doing it that way for 30+ years.
I agree. I was just letting people know that if they have these gloves. They work really well to burnish the shaft. I have tons of leather pieces that I use to do so. The glove works the best from all the other pieces that I have. Those gloves are on par with the leather strips I use to finish the sharpening of my wood chisels. I really liked the fact that with these gloves you wear them so you wear so you really could get a firm grip on the shaft to create friction and heat. All of this is in my own opinion. I have tried dozen of different things. The ease of use, and what the shaft came out as. It’s the best IMO.

I use it also, but not often, the thing is abrasive, but cleans great. After using it you definitely want to seal and burnish the shaft. FYI, you can get it really cheap as a no name pack of the cubes on Amazon, etc... just look for "malamine foam". They are a bit less sturdy than the Mr Clean and other name brands but cost like 10x less. I use it for almost everything, cleans rust and gunk of knives (just careful for the edges hehe), ovens, burners, I even saved a very expensive monitor my son drew on with permanent marker with it.

I keep a piece in my pool case, mostly for others to use when I come across players that don't know much about shaft maintenance. And a microfiber cloth.

I buy this brand.

How do you seal your shaft??

I play with pre-cat 314's and very old growth shafts. I would clean them, just to get filthy ,in no time.
I've had them professionally cleaned, burnished, you name it. I'm a cold pressed oily Italian, what can I say.
I realized long ago I like them better dirty. When I pull those filthy bad boys out I look like I know how to play.
Once I put on The Glove, they play smooth as silk, smoother than Dr.Slick , himself.
Da Glove = Best invention since women.

I agree, the glove helps so much with keeping the cue clean and playing smoothly. When I got a glove I thought for sure I would use it for a day and then throw it away, but I really like it and haven't played without one in years. I can't stand chalk and powder, I hate having to be so careful with my left hand, not picking up a drink, taking an extra 5 minutes in the men's room to dry my hands so carefully. With the glove I can just not ever think about that. Sure, I look like a douchebag, but I was never in any danger of looking cool, anyway.

Us douchebags have strength in numbers.

I don't think gloves make anyone look bad.
But here is what makes people look bad to me at least and I've seen it in person.
Player has
Glove
Apron
Carbon fiber shaft on a $1000 butt
High dollar leather case
Brings own balls to the room
Has high dollar chalk
Sometimes brings own rack
And the ultimate-videos himself
Then can't run 6 balls on an open table starting with ball in hand.

I know several like that at the local tourneys. He even wears a billiards collared shirt like the pros do on tv. He will run maybe 3-4 balls max.

Not sure what Corey has wrapped around his cue,(and a couple of others), but when I would play off the wall in some of the bars I would clean it with some hand soap, burnish it with a napkin, and wrap a piece of a napkin around the cue to keep it from being so sticky.
Looked goofy, but I won a couple of bucks, no shortage of challengers

I remember barber shops and there was a leather strap hanging on the barber chair stations.
They’d get out that straight razor & run the blade against the strap before shaving a customer.

Well with shaft sealer, but I have not used actual shaft sealer as a product, just clean it with a lightly damp cloth to get rid of the loose particles/grit, use a polishing paper (1000 or so grit), then burnish it and a bit of car wax. This is really maybe a few times a year procedure though, most of the time I just clean the shaft with a cloth.

As noted earlier the mr clean sponge works great. Leaves the shaft looking almost new and super smooth.

I have those for my wood chisels. But mine are attached to a board right via nails. I have use one to burnish a shaft before. Worked well.

Cue Wax seem to work well. Most places that sell Auto Pain have like 2500 grit sand paper, also those Micro Sandpapers that come in set of 4 go to 7500 grit.

After use run under warm water, to remove dust& partials, dry on paper towel, they seem to last forever.

Many sources, many brands.

We all know the type of fella that you are talking about, I usually see them on league nights. However, i think filming yourself is a great way to improve your game. if the guy can’t run 6 balls, it’s possible he’s filming himself in an effort to do so?

I’ve been setting up my knock off go pro lately so i can watch my straight pool attempts and analyze what i “should have done.”

I’m also guilty of bringing my own rack, but the place i like to shoot uses one of those terrible flimsy plastic triangles and my v-rack is easy to bring with.

what’s an “apron?”

Apron? Can you still buy them?

I had a teammate use coca cola om a paper towel. It basically ate away everything. The guy was a AAA player. His cue was very slick btw.

The original Dr. Z's by Kerry Zeiler and sold through Best Billiards in Santa Ana, Calif. Generous squares of 3M mesh ranging from 600-4000 and a felt cloth to remove any residual. All stapled together and packed in a plastic pouch. I wipe down my shaft after playing so I don't get the blue residue ingrained into my shaft. For those who do get the bluish tint and want to remove it Mr. Clean is amazing.

For simplicity a square of 600-1200 an absorbent cloth and a square of tight grained leather for burnishing. Big plus is to wash your hands before and after playing.
