Fractional aim points and their cut angles

if i had to think about that shit while playing i'd never make a ball. so easy to overthink/over-complicate this game.
It’s s#it I never considered for 30+ years until I heard about it on the internet. Too many variables from table to table and the unfathomable number of balls out there.

Much easier to visualize 2 points, align them, make the shot.
That is exactly what this thread is about.

The plot shows the relationship between contact point and ball fractions, for those who are curious.

Being curious is the difference between a results based person and a process based person. A results based person can easily fall into a poor man / victim mentality. The latter has understanding. Be the latter.

I just wanna say CPG...

Just trying to rep the underdogs whose voice isn't heard much here.

True. They'd probably play better if they didn't spend so much time and energy on bizzare aiming systems.
Bizarre? Fractional ball aiming is probably the most widely recognized and understood way to aim not only object balls but also caroms in the world. Overlapping ball diagrams are prevalent in pretty much every piece of literature discussing billiards.

Yeah, but to be fair, there are some bizarre systems (I won't mention the most obvious one - don't wanna start a forum fire).

Overlapping diagrams doesnt mean fractional aiming to me
a 3/4 ball hit could be aimed several ways

I don't recall ever reading about things pool related in instructional manuals. I try to keep things as simple as possible bcuz that's how I enjoy playing. Others have their way to enjoy playing that deals with %, degrees, clock faces, supernatural entities, or what have you. Most players my age had to pick shit up quick bcuz we were paying for that knowledge. Didn't have time or energy to analyze the minutiae. That's a luxury provided by this forum. The newbies will take what they can use and leave the rest. Perhaps I'm just lazy. The 'bum' on my acct isn't there for show. Lol.

No worries! :)

One of those things, I developed my own aiming system when the world was young and information hard to come by. I just hit the cue ball on the opposite side of where I want it to go. It was a brutal month or two building the back half of the cue ball in my mind. It seems like I should be able to use fractional aiming but it is ridiculous just how badly I miss, extremely badly. Not the way I see things and I can't persuade myself to see differently after thousands of hours doing things the way I started.

My style seems to be similar to equal opposite but not exactly. Been years since I tried to study nuts and bolts of how I shoot or other methods. When I did try, they didn't work for me. One man promoting pool his way claimed no adjustments needed. It didn't take long to get his test shot working cutting to the left, to the right it didn't work at all. He said you have to make adjustments. "OK, I am out of here!" I was already long ago past what his system did.

Stroke is just fine as is, thank ya very much. Probly has more bugs than bad code, but I manage to drop one or two every now and then.😉 Now if I could just figr out where to hit that damn white ball... 🤣
