I know everyone was just praising Fred for his very informative posts and his valuable knowledge. He asked to be removed from the member list. Does anyone know why?

Read my last post in the snookervspoolplayers thread, I think that pretty much sums it up.

To Fred Agnir

Hey Fred, I know the thread was a tough one, but don't go on quitting on us, please. Your knowledge is appreciated here and I'd like to see your posts in the future as well. And I bet there are a whole bunch of others here who share my thoughts. I know you have a long history in newsgroups and forums, so don't quit here, eh ?

With kind regards,
Mikko

Well maybe Fred Agnir will change his mind and return after a cooling off period....?

Fred is a very knowledgable poster for sure, however,he isn't all knowing(is anyone other than God) and infallable.Maybe he's right 99% of the time, however, no ones right all of the time.

Disagree with him and he gets pissed off and can SOMETIMES get rude.Sometimes I think it's best that I let another person see things their way and I see it my way as we can't allways agree on everything.Shake hands and get on with your lifes is probably the best thing to do.

Having said all of this, I hope he forgives, forgets and starts posting again.

When I first joined this site I posted a question about predator shafts and Fred replied with a very well thought out post. At the time I was a new player and didn't even know what deflection was.

I also enjoyed Fred's ideas on his aiming system.

I hope Fred will reconsider. Some of the people who piss you off are trying to do exactly that. It's no different than a guy who knows he can't shoot as good as you so he starts doing stuff to try to get under your skin hoping to throw your game off.

Yep... commiting vicarious Hari Kari is not an option here! I understand Fred took it personal but, cutting your head off to spite your face...? I hope he comes around and climbs back in the saddle again. :)

I do hope Fred changes his mind. He's one of the most informative (and respected) posters here. It won't be the same without him. We have several "regular" posters here, and the unique personality of each one is what makes this forum great.

I hope Fred changes his mind as well-

I met him at bca nationals in Vegas in May, I enjoyed speaking with him then as much as I enjoy reading his posts now

Although opinions can be had all around, not all opinions deserve the same merit. Most people slap it down casually. Fred meticulously reasons out his positions and articulates them better than most.

Naturally this can create some resentment, because most of the time Fred's opinions turn out to be the correct opinions. And also naturally, when people challenge Fred's positions without having gone through the same rigorous logical processes he went through, Fred can become a little annoyed, and it shows through some of his threads.
I see alot of frustration from time to time, but never any unwarranted rudeness in his posts.

I've read Fred's posts religiously (on here, as well as rsb and ccb) and Imho...this forum's credibility will suffer if Fred departs.

Yes, Fred is very logical and does his research. Unfortunately, when the folks who are here more for winning debates than fun discussions do the "Strawman fallacy" thing on him he doesn't just ignore them. It's tough, but there is nothing to be gained by responding to them.

This is extremely common in all public forums and isn't going to go away (folks arguing taking bits and pieces of other posts out of context, and ignoring the parts they don't like, simply to win a debate).

Fred...............

A WINNER NEVER QUITS

AND A QUITTER NEVER WINS

Which one are you?

Dont disappoint us.

you do not have to be removed from the member roster to quit posting on the forum. someone asking to be removed is obviously seeking attention.

being that fred is a writer he could at least articulate to forum members what made him come to this decision.

surely it wasnt the snooker vs pool back and forth with theone.

I thought the same thing, a bit childish.

Fred ...

I will miss his posts, and I think he symbolized what forums
such as this should be about. But, all posters don't hold to
the same logic as you do, no matter how objective you think
you are being. And you have to be openmided enough to
recognize and accept that. Sometimes, all you do is to
recognize that you will never agree with someone else, and
that sometimes, there isn't always a clear definitive answer
to some issues.

I always looked for Fred's posts, and considered him intelligent,
informative, and relevant. But, we are all human.

i don't think the "strawman fallacy" applies to what theone was trying to do. he was trying to get fred to simplify what he believed. which i think fred eventually did. i also don't think theone was trying "to win" a debate. i think he was just trying to find out where their opinions differed if in fact they did.
Differences in opinion - that's what makes this stuff interesting.

I read through most of the posts between Fred and Craig, what a chore! I felt that they both started throwing in the personal stuff and that's why they had problems. Their opinions are just that, opinions. For Fred to quit the forum just because of a pissing contest with another poster is childish. He should just tell Craig to kiss his ass and call it a day. The same should be done by Craig. We all get to have our own opinions and if no one likes it, screw 'em!!

It's a catch-22 though - if you take the high road and "drop out" of the fight, you can't announce it or you get flamed for being a coward, and if you're in a discussion with someone who just likes to fight, nothing you say to smooth things over will work - you just begin to resemble an injured zebra...virtual guts everywhere :)

I don't think this is a cry for attention on Fred's part. Had that been the case, he would have created a thread announcing his departure, which has been done before and those people were flamed for being attention-seekers. He privately requested to be removed from the forum.

I'm sorry but I disagree. You can say you agree to disagree and move on. These two guys wrote volumes of BS and it wasn't worth it. If one of them had said shortly after realizing they weren't going to change the other's opinion, "Let's just agree to disagree", they would have saved a whole lot of bandwidth. What did either of them accomplish by running on and on and on? Now one of them is quitting for some reason that may remain a mystery and for what? Fred has a lot to offer this forum and should remain on it. If he doesn't and quits, we all suffer including him.
