The only place close to me with decent tables also happens to have some of the best hot dogs on the planet plus home-made soups etc.
Needless to say, it's a regular lunch time spot.
Most of the guys have played each another enough that the games/spots are well established and it's pretty much entertainment or practice with modest stakes if any at all. Until a new player comes in that is
.
I walked in the other day and couldn't even get my lunch ordered before a gentleman I'd never played (and only seen once or twice playing others) jumped up and asked to play some "cheap one pocket". I had seen enough of his 9ball to figure he would need weight and assumed he would ask, note to self: shut pie hole and let the other guy offer the game first!. He never mentioned any spot and grabbed the balls.
He asked for some $10 one hole and prefaced it with a 2 hour time limit, fine by me , "bankers lunch it is".
I figure since he was like 25 years my senior, he thought he would be able to out-move me and snap off a quick lunch time score. He was looking at me like I was about ready to ask for a spot  .
Went down 8-2 me first game, he actually got out ahead 4-0 second game but I reeled him in and and ended up 8-3. These were 15-20 minute games....he "ran out of time" and couldn't play more but stated we would try again! I didn't pull any strong shots off and basically just left him tuff and waited for mistakes.
I love free lunch and one pocket lessons!
