Free Stroking

So I was going to start this last night but something happened and I had a hangover type feeling all of a sudden with a headache. SO HERE I AM

When was the last time you "free stroked" and what were you doing. I went to get some practice in yesterday and at the end of the night and after a few games of 8 ball with some locals it happened.
I decided to end my night with some 14.1 (was just practicing shot before) and out of no where I was drilling it, with only one bad play per rack on average I kept coming with shots out of no where and I just couldn't stop. If I didn't have somewhere to be I probably would of kept going cause I was loving what was happening and didn't want to stop, every time i'd do something that would for the most part end the run or even if i missed i'd just keep going, then i'd have a funny break shot (one time up table one diamond from the corner on the short rail or maybe half diamond) and say "let me see if i can do this and BOOM i'd make the ball, break the stack and have a shot, then i'd say let me see if i can run this and BOOM I would.

Gosh that was some good stuff last night. When was the last time you were there? were you practicing, playing the ghost, tourney, action, league, heck were you testing a cue, how long has it been? cause it's been a while since i last felt this.

Remember that feeling. Don't let go of it.
Most times we think to much and tense up.
Let it go, Let it flow. In the words of Jimmy Reid.

ah men i wish, unfortunately i don't play as often any more so the next time i pick up the stick lord knows what will happen. I will say it was a nice pace, a bit faster than I have been training myself too but it felt ok, kind of Rodney Morrisesk.

I learnt a lot last night and ending the night shooting like that really help to reinforce what i was practicing, it was good to know that the corrections i made while practicing those cut shots and fixing my stroke came together at the end of the session.

(thinking...) now if i can just remember what those corrections were :scratchhead:

It may be something as simple as, you found your perfect pace at the table.
Kinda like when you play that really slow/fast player and it takes you out of rhythm.

I think, when ever I get there, I totally forget about everything. People will say "remember that shot when you shot "x" into "x", and it will take someone setting up the shot, before I can remember it. This normally will happen after a long turn at the table, and I'm playing well.

Another thing that will get me going is certain music playing in the background, or on my headphones when wearing them.

I was playing a slow player a few weeks ago and got wrapped up in his pace, and i was playing real bad because of it.
About half way through i said piss on it, just fire balls in the hole. Well the match changed dramatically in my favor.
Sometimes it's about the attitude you have during the good times.

This is called The Zone. It is a coveted place where the subconscious mind rules and allows you to perform to your best ability. It is hard to stay in The Zone. Some athletes can harness it for longer periods of time than others. For most of us it is a fleeting period that we recognize long after it has past.

That is so true, but i find it more confusing that getting focused/tightening up/the zone/free stroking.
I have this one guy that i play (just for the hell of it, some guys like to use me as a measure) and although we are social I don't particularly like him "pool wise anyway" but no matter what mood I'm in I turn into a monster for far longer than with anyone else and just murder this guy. Then there's some that i respect and would like to play my best with them so i can get some feed back but _______, zip, nada, I end up looking like a banger.
