I assume you meant "African Blackwood", but that is a very nice wood combination on that ST. That cue should hit awesome with that blackwood forearm. Good luck with the sale

Correct, I meant African Blackwood. Thanks for your post.

Sorry for my ignorance but can someone please explain to me why Sugertree cues cost/worth so much?

I'm really not trying to start anything here, I'm really just curious.
I've never heard of Sugertree before coming to this forum.
They looks like really nice cues but not like cues that should cost over $500.
What makes them so special?

Thanks for any serious input here.
And sorry for hijacking this tread.

Supply vs Demand

Quality

Attention to detail

Hype (albeit mostly all true)

They are cues that have been discovered to rival the very best in captivity for finish, workmanship, and playability. There aren't enough to fill the demand and Mr. Crisp (Eric Crisp is the maker) doesn't make that many.

I have one with Lakewood shafts and I love it. It plays as well or better than my South West's and the butt is thinner... which feels much better to me. I'm tempted to have the shafts cut smaller (they are 13+mm and I play with a Z2 = 11.7) but hate to mess with the lakewood shafts. I'm afraid doing so would affect the very crisp hit (yeah.. I know.. I did a pun).

Edit: and I'm REAL tempted to add this cue to the stable.

Interesting that southwest and playability are mentioned here...
I never got to play with either (maybe some day  ) so I can't say anything about playability, hit or feel.
I know that they are all matter of personal preferences but in my opinion a 20oz (or any weight over 18.9oz) cue can not be a "great" player... I can see how it hit a ton since it weighs a ton... (j/k)

But what I find interesting is that by viewing this section of the forum it looks like the southwest and sugertree cues are changing hands around here more then other brands. To me if a cue is a "great" player then I would like to keep it....

I would like to post an apology to the seller of this cue for hijacking this thread.
I have no problems with deleting my posts here.

Thank you and good luck with the sell.
(consider this a bump for a nice cue ;) )

same reason a bluegrass like that would cost about the same. Same reason why a southwest would cost more.

Quality cue that plays great.

Any other questions?

BEAUTIFUL CUE!!! WISH I HAD SOME EXTRA SCRATCH!!

There are a lot of higher end cues purchased and traded here, such as SW and ST that are purchased soley for investment purposes, so when the owner feels the time is right , or for what ever reason they will let them go. THIS IS A GREAT FORUM TO FIND HIGHER END CUES AT FIAR AND NEGOTIABLE PRICES THAT YOU MAY OTHERWISE HAVE TO WAIT YEARS TO PURCHASE. example: my last SW took 9 years and 10 months for SW to deliver. The cue was ordered as an investment in 1998 and I just got it the end of July, and by the way, the cue has been sold. CONGRADULATIONS TO MONTO P2.

Thanks Mike:D

Skor this cue is worth every penny. Eric Crisp is not taking orders as there too much backlog so there is a big waiting list. The playabilty of sugartree cues is top notch,The hype can work till certain extent but at the end if the playbilty is not good than people would not buy the cue.See like sw has a 10 year wait is because of the playbilty not only hype.
But again u have to discover for yourself what suits u,even a 10usd cue could work wonders for u and 2000 cue might not.

Bump for this beautiful sugar with choclate like blackwood:D

All you have to do is try to buy one and it will all be explained, they are not easy to get at all,and if and when you get it and play with it you will want to keep it,they play unbelievable.

It's BLACKWOOD with a ALUMINUM pin, I would think it was not easy to reach 20 oz. no less 19 something........

This is the first Sugartree that I have ever had in my hands and can tell you point blank, the cue is worth at least $200.00 more than my posted asking price. By the way, the cue sold early this morning, pending receipt of payment, which I have been assured is forthcoming. I'm very impressed by the workmanship in this Sugartree. I now know why there is so much hype concerning cues made by Eric Crisp. Before I took delivery of this cue yesterday, I wondered why people were paying $1,400+ for a no points cue; I now know why.

No Question

Without a doubt the new owner got a fantastic cue...and there is no hype, just great playing cues! In my opinion much better than the others; he just has the magic formula that works. Tremendous wood stock, killer construction technique, great taper, and patience to get it right.

Agreed, 100%. I played with the cue Saturday evening after I posted and sold the cue earlier in the day. The cue is among the best 5 hitting cues I have ever played, and I've hit several hundred different custom cues in the past 5 years, some costing as much as $16,000. Truly a remarkable hitting instrument. My hat is off to Eric Crisp.

You played with it after you sold it ? Is this right ? That is just plain wrong! I am sure you were just "checking it out". Why didn't you do this before you sold it and it was someone elses cue ? Just plain wrong!
