joe if you have the ann gore fellini at the expo i will be very intersted....great collection of some of the best cases ever made..

Great Cases Joe. Even better if your name is June. Maybe someday my Chinese-made stuff will be collectible like that 55 million dollar ming dynasty vase that sold a few years ago.

$1200 is great multiple over the $140 that the tooled Fellini cost when it was new. I am sure you will sell out!

I won't know. I will be long gone. It's got to be some gratification to Bob Hemphil seeing his cases being sold at more than 10x their original price in less than 20-30 years after they were made and with people's names tooled in them to boot. It will be interesting to see how the cases I build today are handled in 30 years if I should live that long.

I don't build for collectibility's sake but seeing what I see with the Fellini's and Centennials shows me that people value good stuff that is rare and stays intact.

I meant I hope you sell out like you always have done. You are a very successful salesman in this business and it's a pleasure and a learning experience to watch you work your magic.

One of one lizard zig zag: SALE PENDING

Is the lizard zig zag a cowhide print? If not what kind of lizard is it?

It's from the Zig Zag lizard of New Zealand. Given to me by Bear Grylls during a filming of Man vs Wild... :p

The signature series are all prints unless noted...

John,
If you want to debate values, lets start at the begining and start with cost of production VS original sale price. You, know how certain companies can offer 50% or better, still make huge profit and survive. Be able to offer a new case free of charge on failure of the old case. Because in reality it all (value) starts from there. I mean we can agree on that at least.

In 1978 the materials probably cost under 20 dollars. Min wage was 2.70, so if it took 16 hours to make the case, $ 45 in labor, $ 70 in the case to round off. Not bad at 140 sell price.

Now in todays market maybe the material is 50 bucks or so, probably a lot less off shore, maybe not even. Average pay a week is 50 yuan in China, thats under 8.00 US, same 16 hours So really you might pay
10 dollars in labor on the same case.... Holy crap.. it costs less to make today than it did in 1978. Now the sell price of 900-1200.. 10x 1978 prices yet the labor is cheaper...

Who is really making the markup???

No debate Joe. I am happy to see that the Fellini cases you are selling have increased in price so dramatically. It's good for everyone when old stuff is preserved and collected. The money spent gets pumped back into the economy and everybody wins.

Maybe in 30 years a GTF case made now will be worth $4000 to someone who collects rare leather cue cases. And a Fellini will be worth $15000.

In any event good luck with your sales, some old some new. Always great stuff that Mark has for sale. Without you I doubt any of us would get to see them as rarely as Mark gets out.

PS. You numbers are quite a bit off on Chinese wages. Even with 1.4 billion of them you'd be out of luck to find anyone willing to work for 50 rmb a week. It's ok though, there is a lot of misinformation out there about China. Those of us who live and work here know the real deal. We laugh about the things people say who obviously have never been here or worked here.

Good luck with your sales. Will Prout bought the Fellini memoribilia and perhaps you could hook up with him and get an orginal brochure to go with that 1200 case you are selling. That would be a nice touch.
