emeralds

I have had a few of these and finally used 2. I put one on a house cue at the bar i work. Its been about a month and no mushrooming at all. I used to have a Moori med first version on my playing cue and was sceptical as to how good this 5.00 tip would be. I really like the emerald and for the price, you cant beat it.
I will tell you the trick to fight the mushrooming. I have no lathe but use a drill set up to spin my shaft at high speed. Trim the tip as close as possible. I then hit it with 220, 400, 600 , 1000 and then 1500 grit sandpaper. Be careful not to hit the ferule. When i get to the 1000 and 1500 i really apply pressure to the tip to cause alot of heat and burnish the leather. I then apply spit to my finger and use it on the edge, i use a cloth and press it and let the heat build again. For the final treatment i use a cloth i build up and coat with cue wax, i really apply the pressure with the wax and heat it good. This seals the leather and prevents the mushrooming. I break with the tip and never have any problems.

recycled pig leather splits ? What are these?
