I'm selling this cue for a friend of mine. He's not good with computers and asked me to post this. And I'm not by any means, a Szamboti expert but I will try and answer any and all questions.

This cue is a basic 4pt ebony cue into a maple forearm. Ebony butt with a Delrin butt cap. Linen wrap. The cue was specially ordered from Gus by a road player with NO veneers so it would not attract attention.

It comes with 2 shafts. One is believed to be original (has a micarta ferrule). The other looks of the same era but the brass insert may have been cut back for the piloting. So it may not be a Szam shaft. It has an ivory ferrule. Note: The ivory ferrule has a hairline crack in it.

The cue has been refinished. While it looks very nice it was not done by a Szamboti so he understands this effects the overall value. When it was clear coated they coated over the delrin buttcap.

He is selling this for $5,000. Will consider going through an escrow service.

I will get some weights and diameters posted in a few minutes...

Diameter at butt: 1.249"
Diameter at joint: 0.841"

Shaft #1 w/Micarta ferrule
Diameter at base: 0.837"
Diameter at tip: 12.93 mm

Shaft #2 w/Ivory ferrule
Diameter at base: 0.836"
Diameter at tip: 12.35 mm
Note: hairline crack in the ferrule

Don't have any weights on hand. Batteries in scale are dead. I will try to get weights asap.

Who in the world refinished this cue?

Refinish

Don't know. He got it that way. I know the cue has been in the Sacramento area for a long time though.

Any letter of authenticity?

Not trying to be a pain in the ... but the question will come up.

Loa

Not at all.. I completely understand. However, I don't believe Barry issues LOA's. Unless someone can chime in that knows this cue the only way I know of is to get the cue to Barry himself. I have compared this cue side by side with another Szam and the specs are the same.

Barry can verify if it's his dads cue. He will give a letter if it's his [Barry's]

Wish you had posted this earlier in the day while Barry could be contacted. You might not get any action till somebody can contact Barry tomorrow.

Gs

Cue isn't going anywhere unless it sells. If someone can get Barry to look at it I'm sure my friend would be more than willing to get it in his hands for verification. It can only help any/all parties involved. If anyone wants or needs specific pics I can get that done also. The cue is currently in my possession but I'm giving it back to him soon. Can also put interested parties in direct contact with my friend. He knows more of the cue's history than I do. People that used to own it.. etc...

Would you be interested in sending the cue to Barry to verify? If it is a Gus, Im interested in it!

Thanks Larry

Thanks Larry. I'm sure the owner would be interested in that.

I know the provenence of the cue and have seen it. Its a Gus, no question, and the ivory ferruled shaft is the original.

Didn't know the Ivory shaft was the original though. Thank you.

From what I was told, this cue belonged to a player named Danny D. (Paradise, not DiLeberto). Then Wayno owned it for a short time.

Cue doesn't look it was refinished...the wrap still look original.

Regards,
Duc.

Thanks Duc. The wrap may be original, it sure looks like it has a lot of miles on it. And it's worn perfectly and feels great. The overall balance of the cue is perfect and it hits super sweet. This cue was built to do one thing..... win.

The refinish is nice but not believed to be original. They clear coated over the buttcap. Szamboti didn't/doesn't coat over over the buttcap. They have the delrin natural and exposed.

I looked at this cue last weekend with Rex, joint pin look right, ss joint look right, forearm look right, points length and gab looks right, wrap never been change, butt sleeve length look right, butt cap look right, bumper and weight bolt look right, but then again. I only own 2 of Barry cues and 2 Gus Szamboti in my hand, and played with few. Rex did you said Fatboy know of this cue? Hope he see this posted and chime in for this cue.

I did speak to Fatboy a little while back about the cue. Maybe he will chime in if he see's this post.

My friend is much more of a player than a cue collector. This cue is awesome and belongs with someone that will appreciate it. Would love to see it as part of a Szam collection. This cue has seen a lot of action!
