For Sale: Kiln Dried Amboyna Burl slab. This piece is longer than my table saw is wide. Weighs 28lbs DRY WEIGHT. This is not a wet slab but kiln dried to 8%. Outer lighter area measures about 11%. Kiln drying stablizes light and dark area that many times splits if not kiln dried. This slab has fabulous figure and some defects as the pictures show. Measures 1.75" thick so you can cut butt pieces and still cut inlay slabs.
Amboyna is getting more expensive all the time. If you can find it for under $30.00lb green your doing good. Price for this piece is $28.00lb or $784.00 + shipping. It is already dry so no waiting a year or two and worrying about degrade and your not paying green wet weight.

I think it's the sapwood that's typically used in cue making. Has anyone ever tried using the heartwood in a cue? IIRC, amboyna burl is actually Narra.
Mr H

The tree itself is called Narra. There are red Narra and yellow Narra and the burls are different colors from each. The outer part of the burl is sometimes called the sap and the inner, darker colored part, the heart just as trees are.

How many joint protectors could you make out of that????

I been putting some thought to that and I came up with "several" . Maybe even "lots" . Love that wood. I did do a cue with a Amboyna segmated handle, was gorgeus . Wish I had the cask, Truck down again, Transmission this time. I was in you neck of the woods 2 weeks ago, delivered in CollegePlace, kenniwick and Yakima. Thanks Jim

I realize a lot of cuemakers are short of sales right now so this is probably a big chuck. I also have a slab that is 23lbs or $614.00. Any interest in sq's or inlay slabs instead of the whole slab? If so I will cut them up and relist.

That might be better, maybe some 1-1/2 by 15, 18, and 24 inches. If you have the capability maybe some 1/8 or 3/16 inlay slabs or veneers also.Absolutely stunning wood!!!

I can cue squares to whatever is practical in the burl, all the way down to 4.00+ for butt sleeves. My question to you all would be how many would be interested in inlay sheets - .160"?? How wide and how long? 3.0x10.0? 1 1/2" x 10"? I will have these cut sometime next week and post pics and pricing then.
