That is an ELK Horn ferrule, it is extremly hard, I am having a new tip put on it tonight, and the shaft cleaned.

Is the shaft from a "BK" or a "BK2"?

Are you saying that you changed the ferrule?

it is a shaft from a BK. I had a BK and had the ferrule changed, and during the life of the cue it developed a flaw in the finish. I sent it back to Predator and they sent me a new BK2 butt, with the original shaft.

Sounds like a BK1.5 Rev.A to me. :)

Actually, it's barely a BK at all. If you change the ferrule, the cue changes drastically. That's not to say it wouldn't be a great break cue, it might be fantastic. It just wouldn't be anything like a BK or BK2 with respect to deflection.

I am not a cue maker, so I dont know how it changes it that much if at all, if the specs are kept the same, and I can tell you that it is size wise the same as the original, and the shaft as you can see is still the 314 that it was bought with. The original was cracked, and I was talked into this one. I did not realize at the time that it would have been replace for free if i had sent it to them. It does break them like a Cannon though, I have been experimenting with different tips.
That is just an extremely bad picture because it is so close up and kind of blurry.

That's the problem tho, the specs aren't the same. It wasn't a Predator BK ferrule put on the cue. The person who talked you into that probably figures that what he put on will be fine for breaking and he's right, BUT it makes your BK shaft no different than any other cue, which kinda defeats the purpose.

I'm sure it still breaks like a cannon, it's just important that people realise it's not going to be low deflection like a BK or BK2 should be.

ok, I did not know that. I always thought that the ferrule played a part in feel, but that the shaft is what determined the deflection. I thought that was the story behind the construction of the 314 shaft. If the ferrule determines deflection, then why all the hype over the shafts construction? I have a alot to learn... :(
