full spliced core dowels

I have (more than?) my share of full spliced blanks I have screwed up one way or another over the years and some while ago I took to making core dowels out of them. I cut them just as I would with any shaft or core dowel (about a year or so start to finish) and they work great.
Purpleheart is about 20% heavier than maple so I can change the weight bias either direction depending on which way I put the core in. Same deal with other woods.
Does anyone else do this? Just curious.

old one piece cues

if the weight works out o.k. i like to use the laminated dowels i get from atlas for most of my coring materials, but i have quite a few real old one piece cues and i have used a few for dowels. i have never thought of the idea of turning the splice for weight distribution. thank you for sharing the idea.

Thanks for the comments.
It really works well for me, and it lets me say"...and it has a super trick full splice core!"
But it's not just a gimmick. I think it's a really good balancing technique since I can remove rear weight and add front weight, or the reverse, all in one step with no metal involved. That, plus 5 different weights for (radial) pins and I can really dial 'em in.
Is it "better"? Who knows. But it works for me.
