Furrel Identification

Could anyone out there please help me identify a furrel??? I dont have a camera but it appears to me micarta??? with a black layer on top followed by a white material. this repeates 3 times then the tip. Kind of similar to an OB1 only flat and not the full length. If it is any help the cue is an older generic made in China cue with an inverted brass joint. If anyone knows this furrel can it be replaced the same? Where can I find one. Thanks

if it's a chinese cue with a inverted pin , (pin on shaft) i cant see where it would make any difference , replace it with a titan or simular unless it has sentimental value and you want to keep it original. at that point im no longer any help.

the only reson I ask is i have been using this cue to break with and hit hit is rock solid and i seem to get really good cue control with it. It got cracked somehow and just want to put it back the same way it was. Also this cue does have some sentimental value as it was my grandfathers cue. Thanks

Since you don't have a camera, best bet is to find a buddy with a cell phone that has a camera on it.
 
the only reason i even put anything up was to see if anyone knew of them. I have never seen anything like it and i will try to get some pics up asap.
 
as soon as you get pictures of it, put it up in the "ask the cuemaker" section, and you'll get alot more responses. and you'll get estimates on having it replaced/fixed.

I am very familiar with that configuration... I have seen it numerous times over the years and it's either black/white triple stack or blue/white triple stack...

These are inexpensive plastic ferrules and are of zero value in the playability aspect of it and everyone I have seen has been installed on chinese ramin wood 10.00 cues

Please do NOT take offense but unless it's sentimental... it will cost you more to replace the ferrule and tip than the entire cue costed to begin with !

by the way if i decide to invest in fixing this cue(not with current setup) what would you recomend for a tip and furrel combo to break with? I have tried the phenolics and a G-10 but dont seem to get the control im looking for. Any imput would be helpful.

Well first off I wouldn't recommend breaking with a raminwood shaft... it will fall apart on you rather quickly....

As far as ferrule and tip types.. there are several configurations... but since I build b/j cues.... a fiber ferrule with my exclusive phenolic impegnated leather tip is an optimum combination to get the job done extremely well !

You can also use a pressed tip that had been hammered out and sealed up with a harder ferrule composit as well....

The list goes on... but I strongly suggest that you consider investing in a maple shaft or a b/j cue that has been geared up with forward balance and dedicated specifications essential to effective and consistant breaking/jumping performance !

Mine start at 225.00 and I'll try to match your playing cue's joint collars/rings and woods exactly if you are interested.....

I personally use the 3/8-10 pin on all my b/j cues I feel it's a great combination..

i bought an excalibur at sports authority for $30, removed the weight bolt to take it down to 17 oz and move the balance to 20" from the butt cap. i then had a capped saber-t ferrule and white diamond tip installed which ran around $60 and it works really really well at not a high price.

That's the beautiful thing about break cues.... there are so many options available and you do NOT have to spend alot of money to achieve great results !!!


By the way...fantastic job on the modification !!!!
