I'm surprised by how often he says he uses sidespin. I thought that side was only a last resort in snooker, but he's using side on position routes that could work with just the vertical axis.

I have not played snooker in over 30 years.
English is a tool that allows one to dictate how to hit the OB because of the spin induced throw. That allows one to get a different tangent line than when staying on the vertical axis plus it also allows one to dictate the rebound from off a the rail.
The combiantion of the two(2) gives a shooter a wider aray of how to shoot a shot and with control over the situation instead of hoping to get the correct tangent with the correct speed. Some shots are just more simple to shoot with english & give a greater margin of not getting on the wrong side by accident.
Some seel to think that using english requires large amount of spin that would wind up geeting out of control. Notice he said just a bit of rigt hand spin. It seems to me that there has possibly been a propaganda brain washing campaigne against the use of english.
Yet I no of no top shelf player that does emply english when it is the correct thing to do.
All of the above is just MHO & merely osme food for thought.

The science guys on AZ would probably pick this guy apart. He seems like he does a few shots where his actual english doesn't match what he says he'll do. But I've seen his stroke shot highlights and it's obvious he can make the cue ball do whatever he wants. I'm also surprised at how much sidespin is mentioned, especially on shots where the cue ball never goes into a rail.

Why make a statement like that about the "science guys" when they haven't said anything against him. All it does is cause needless divisions on the forums. Just so you know, the "science guys" have linked to that very video a number of times to show great examples of how to do several things.
Hey, you're right. It was my way of pointing out his words and his actions don't always quite line up. But I felt a bit nitpicky for making the observation. So I fobbed it off on 'the science guys'. But really I'm a science guy too and I should have just owned the observation instead of dumping it on some nameless third party. My apologies.
As a teacher I'm sure he gets the job done. And as a player he's phenomenal.
