G-core shaft

In another thread it was said that the G-core shaft is a low deflection shaft is that true.
question is the G core really a low deflection shaft. When i picked mine up I thought it deflected the same as my regular Mcdermot shaft that came with the cue. I had no adjustment period, The biggest difference was the stability and consistency of the hit. what do you think?

agreed, the g-core is not low deflection. the design of the g-core doesn't really do anything to lighten the front end and thus doesn't reduce deflection. same for their i-shafts as well.

that is what i thought much better hit and feel than low deflaction cues but much more stable. I knew mine was what I was looking for in about 2 minutes. Did not like the i shafts i tried but I did not give them any time to get used to them dont know if low deflection or not.

There was a deflection test performed of various cue shafts and a chart presented that showed the actual percentage of LD the different shafts had over a standard shaft. I can't find the chart now, but the I2 shaft was around 9% lower deflection than a standard shaft if I remember correctly. The 314-2 and OBs were much higher, in the 20s I think.

The I3, which is the smaller diameter tip (and smaller end mass), had decent LD performance but was still much more deflection than the Z2, which has the same diameter.

So, the McDermott I-series does have LD performance, it just isn't as LD as some of the other LD shafts. I would assume the G core is probably higher deflection than most LD shafts but I wouldn't say it is the same deflection as a standard shaft.

keep in mind those tests (the platinum billiards one you refer to) are pretty old. the i-shaft has undergone several revisions since then. the older i-shafts in that test did reduce deflection, but the current design doesn't. actually the i-2 shaft that i have actually has MORE deflection than most regular maple shafts.

Ah, I had no idea that they had changed the I shafts so much that they aren't even LD anymore. Nice to know... thanks for the info.
