G10 Ferrule?

Way too hard and heavy. :thumbup:
i have a r schon from the early 1980's.
the micarta ferrule, cracked, so we replaced it with a
g-10 light green rolled material--ferrule, I did it as a 5/16x18 inside threads, the outside of the shaft was a small diameter, the shaft had been worn or taken down to just over 11mm. So the wall thickness was minimal, but this was perfect for a material like--g10, so from there we put on a vintage champion tip and after all this,
the customer, LOVED the outcome of the installation, by the way, the tennon was threaded and capped with about a 1/6" cap. With the fiber backed tip it played very nice and the feedback was good and the customer was very happy and no mechanical failure have occurred since the repair was done, this was done in 2009, so it has been installed for over seven years without a wall cracking and no issues.

I have 2, 2 foot lengths of G 10. I bought them for the purpose of one piece break ferrules.
You have no idea on how heavy a 2 foot length is, until you pick one up.
With the new leather break tips and the Taom, which I love, there is no longer a need for phenolic or G 10 break tips. And that is approx all it is good for.
Way to many different ferrule materials out there that are very decent. No need to play with the old stuff. People tried it. Blah.

What if I put one of the OB pads on the ferrule and a Kamui Soft or Milk Dud from PoolDawg8 on it? Would that negate the G10 ferrules hardness, stiffness, weight?
I can afford a new ferrule, just a pain to ship a shaft from Alaska and no one here does that work other then Bender and that is small taters for him.
I need to make a decision on this ferrule as the Anchorage Fur Rondy Tournament is in March. This is driven by the thought I need to try a little bigger diameter playing shaft.
I want to try a 2.75 mm shaft a to see how I do compared to my 2 Diviney 12.5 mm Lake Salvage Shafts and the Lake Salvage break shaft is a little bigger then 12.75 and dark brown in color, very cool looking on my Custom Diviney Ebony Hustler.
What the hell is wrong with me, always chasing the magic piece of equipment, same thing with gun stuff.
A pro shooter from either discipline would do better with my stuff then I do and I know it, Crap!!!

I'd get a ferrule made purely for playing cues if you hsve regular ferrule / tenon setup. There is no need in my opinion for the super strong and heavy materials like G10. Juma and Tomahawk are my personal favourites. LBM is a bit heavier but its also used a lot by cuemakers :smile:
