I first met Ga-Young Kim in 2002 as she played and won a BCA qualifier at Planet 9-Ball. She spoke very little English at the time, but decided to sit next to me at the TD's table, where I entertained her with an endless stream of hilariously funny jokes. At least, I guess she thought that they were funny, as she kept smiling and bowing her head to me the entire time. She has come such a long way since 2002 and I'd like to congratulate her publicly. Her winnings have doubled every year:
2002- $2,000
2003- $16,000
2004- $33,000
2005- $77,000
2006- $ ?
What did the World Championship pay ?

In 2004 Ga made $8000 for winning. This time it's $20,000. That's added to what she made in North Carolina, not last years money. Unfortunately the $20,000 doesn't look to be the regular prize, just this year since Mr.Tu added the Amway money to the event.

I know this will sound negative but a World Championship and Allison and Karen were not there, not really, just a tournament called the world championship.

Know where you're coming from, and the absence of the two greatest nine ball players in the world certainly makes the achievement slightly less impressive.

Nonetheless, I disagree with your statement. Karen and Allison were invited and declined to participate. It was certainly their every right to skip the event, but to suggest that their absence strips the event of its world championship status is not really fair.

Perhaps you would strip Mary Lou Retton of her gold medal in the 1984 LA Summer Olympics because a boycott meant she didn't have to compete against the world's best gymnasts, but I wouldn't. If the best don't show up, that's their problem. Let's not take away from the accomplishments of those that do show up!

This is such predictable crap.

GYK beat Karen in the finals of last year's WPC...and Liu Shin Mei won the WPC before that. Both of them were in attendance this year.

To say that the field was weaker with K&A gone is fine...but to say that it doesn't qualify as a world championship is just asinine.
