Gambling, how to start

A buddy of mine that I usually play against. We play pretty even.

He knows I gamble from time to time and he wants to gamble against random people he doesn't know.
He asked me for advice on how to start doing this... I didn't know what to tell him.

I don't really know how I get into the games with cash on the line, but I do. So I'm asking you all... what kind of tips/advice would you give a guy who wants to start gambling, but doesn't know how to take the first step?
 
Walk up to someone who is playing by themself and say, "Hey would you like to play some cheap sets?"

Decide on an amount, a game, etc. and you're off.
 
Remember, People get pissed over just a handful of money. If they realized you took them, they can become violent. This I know. Watch, listen and you should never have to shame someone into paying up infront of people.
Becareful and remember, your not only gambling with money.

I like honesty in my approach. Walk up to someone, say "I think we'd be a good match. Want to play some sets?" or "I'd like to play some sets, but I think I might need weight. Want to start cheap?"

Always try to organize a cheap start, so you can play to figure out speeds and weight if you know you don't have the better end of the deal from the get-go.
 
Like 007 advised Kid Delicious in the book Running the Table, try, "Hey, anybody got any MONEY STICKS in here?" I listened to the audio book twice and LOL'ed both times at that.
