You have some valid points

Hi Milo

I agree with you. I know that there are women (and I'm talking about amateur status) that are competitive....most have to be to even fork out the money to compete in tournaments. What I meant to say was that even a lot of the competitive ones don't seem to take it too serious.....but that's their choice. Again, I'm referring to amateur/semi-pro status players.

I'm really not trying to be critical.....just making an observation and expressing the kind of environment that I prefer when playing in a tournament or gambling. And by the way, I LOVE to gamble at pool too so maybe we'll cross paths at some point in the future. You never know... we may have played before. PM me your name....we may know each other.
Thanks.

Christyd

You definately have some good points. I agree, not all women take it serioiusly. But that is true for the men too.
To each his/her own. Everyone has there own path in pool.
I sent a PM to you. Maybe we do know of one another.

Take Care

One day about 3-4 years ago at Cadillac Ranch casino in Longview, WA I was waiting on the hot seat for the LB winner to come back to face me. Our match was going to start in about 5 minutes or so. There was a woman practicing on the 9 footer and doing pretty well. She had played in the tourney but lost out earlier in the afternoon. She came up and wanted me to play a few sets for whatever. I told her I was waiting for my match in a few minutes and that I couldn't right now. She apologized for bothering me trying to drum up a game. I was pretty impressed how forward she was looking for action. By the time I finished off the tourney she had left. I never saw her again so I don't know who it was.

Think that's the only time I gambled with a women. Other than playing double-or-nothin sets with my ex-girlfriend NWPA member for oral pleasure. Think she was up to 4096 BJ's owed before she finally made it 0. :D

hi Milo,

wanna playsome,cheap,cheap,5$ a crack,wanna play some,cheap,cheap,give u orange crush,cheap,cheap,ok I will give last three,cheap,cheap

That is all I hear when I go to mens tournament. It is very peacefull at womens tournament. But one time at a womens pro tournament a prominent gambler ( came as a boy friend of a pro player) asked me whether I want to play him cheap and I said no.He kept asking me I then said that I will play him one pocket, race to four for Five thousand $.He said " why don`t u get real,u know and I know we don`t have 5 thousand dollars".I then said " what makes you think I do not have five thousand $,may be you do not have".I told him that I will not play for less than 5 thousand and that silenced him.

Johnny Ts thread about women playing for the cheese, brought something to mind.
The last two weekends I went (first) to a womens tourney, then this weekend, I went to a mens tourney.
Wow, the difference was amazing!!!!!!!
Not about the difference in play with the actual tournament. The difference of the mentality and behavior with gambling, and the talk outside of the tourney!!!!
At the womens tourney, not one single mention of gambling, AT ALL!!!

Its very interesting to me the differences with men and women players.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I would love to hear them.
I read somewhere once that women are not as competitive as men.

(unless they're competing for the same guy...LOL)

The article was written to describe why women are not as good as men in chess. I wish I could find that thing!

Hundreds, if not thousands of girls/women are out there in bars every weekend hustling guys out of small amounts of money( $2- $5 a pop) while waiting for one of them to get mad and try to high roll her. Then I can almost hear her whisper from across the room, "I got ya now sucker". I enjoy sitting and watching the show myself.

Over the years I've taught quite a few how to make some money at the clubs and have fun doing it. I hardly ever tried to show them how to shoot, that they had to have already, just the art of the hustle.

I taught my three daughter's how to do it. Only one really did it. The youngest one Kelly "wild child". I've seen her bring home a couple $100 from a night playing pool at a local club more than a few times. The clubs she went to I knew the owner, the bartender, or the bouncer, so it was like having her in adult daycare. I guess that would be night care. Johnnyt
That's women hustling guys. I think the OP was curious as to whether the women gambled with each other like the men do.

I think that is a personality trait and has little to do with gender. Some people are just more competitive than others... I have seen plenty of guys with no heart and little drive, who play pool just to be social.

However, I do think our culture does not always encourage this trait in women. It also can be based on your line in the family... perhaps only children are less competitive because they have no sibling competition...

Still, I think most women that get beyond a level 3, have some drive and if they elect to play in an event, they must want to do well. No one just throws money away unless they think they have a chance, or hope to improve their skills.

p.s. The most competitive person I know is a woman, she played on several teams with me in NYC. She no longer plays pool but is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Hap Kido. I have never met anyone that hated losing more than her and she told me that in her early days of league, after a loss, she would sometimes spit in her hand before offering it to her opponent to shake.

Some how I found that incredibly endearing...

Hi milo,

Eeeyooo :shocked2:

That settles it.... no more handshakes for me. From now on, to play it safe, all women get the rock! :D

Girls gambling with girls - well, let's see, most of the better non-pro female players don't have much selection when it comes to gambling with other female players. Most amateur women (like most amateur men) don't really gamble at tournaments. Look at the Texas Open this weekend in Texas - 100 men are registered and 20 women. Let's say 25% of the players gamble - that means 25 men could be in action and potentially 5 women. It's a difference in numbers, not necessarily actions.

Then, you take into account the point that Trigger made - alot of male players at the amateur/semi-pro level don't have jobs and play full time. They can stay all night and not have to worry about getting up for work in the morning. I don't know many girls playing pool for a living outside of the pro landscape.

Then take another account into fact, most solid female players travel with other solid female players. Even with the already limited number of female gamblers, most people aren't going to gamble against their roomie. Most male players I know travel with a backer or a close friend that may not play as well.

Then, like Trigger's other point, the all women's event may have more players, but most serious players are there vying for a pro qualifier. The lesser players are their for experience, socializing, a variety of reasons. Many of the girls within a tour have become friends and I know that I don't like to play for more than $10 or $20 dollars when playing someone I am friends with...it just creates bad blood.

Oh yeah, one last thing - ego. Most girls don't have the same ego-driven need to gamble. They normally realize who is better than them and don't always try to prove who they are better than. :)

I will also be in Atlanta this weekend for the same tourney. Would you like to play some? My name is Matt Bulfin and you finished higher than me at the event at Mr Cues 2 weeks ago. I am trying to find someone who wants to play Friday night, preferably at The Pool Room in Duluth(exit 102 off I-85). They just put in a gold crown 5 that's supposed to play good, and I am trying to play some sets for 200-500. Let me know if you are interested.

Well

I have played 46 years, and have yet to see 2 women players, or a woman against a man player playing for more than a $100 a set. There are not hundreds of women players out there hustling guys in the country. Most women that play do not play that often or much, and don't have the balls to gamble except against someone that can't play to begin with.

I have played women a few times during the 46 years, some rated Nationally, and found them to be a B player at the very best.
