i live right outside of atlanta and im just venting about the action these days. I remember when i used to go into any pool room and get played or at least watch some good action to sweat bet on. everytime i go out now i end up sitting there getting drunk lol. any game that is offered to me, (which is about once every 2 months) is a lock game. i refuse to go out and shoot my bankroll at people with little pockets. thats not to even mention how many times i get bluffed at to bet a thousand or two. i always find myself backing c players just to get my gambling fix in lol.

i know the economy is bad but damn what happened! i guess i should sell the pool sticks and start buying stock. by no means am i woofing or calling players up here out. if you do bark i know who you're anyways. im just stating that its not what it used to be.

I noticed that a lot to. I moved to Lilburn, GA in 06 and the Action seemed to be pretty decent then in early 07 it tapered off quite a bit. In mid 07 I moved to ROCKMART, GA and there is NO Action around here at all. Heck the closest pool table (besides Jerry Forsythes) is a 30 mile round trip for me.

What spped do you play at bigsamho ? Have we played before ? Do you want to match up a bit ? I'm not woofin, just dying for action.

There are so many things to gamble on today there isn't any money left for pool anymore. Even your big time action guys are taking their money to the card room ar casino the minute they do make a score playing pool. I am in my late 60's and have gambled at pool since the 50's. I have always been good action and never had a problem getting down. I match up fair, play almost all the games, will bet a little something and don't mind trying out a stranger or a top player with some weight. I have to get my pool fix playing in tournaments anymore. I am lucky if I get to play $50/$100 a game one pocket twice a month and I book more losers than winners. If you do get to play & go off, you might not get to play again because your money has gone to the card room or casino. I know the young guys get tired of hearing about the good old days, but it's true, you could bet what you want and get in action day after day, even in California, which was considered a bad action state after its heyday in the 60's/70's. I hang around what is supposed to be the best action room in Northern CA and the action games are few and far between anymore. You can hardly even get a bad game. It may be better in Southern CA, where I am originally from, but there are three times as many people and pool rooms down there, and I still don't hear about a lot of action going on. They let me bet what I want as much as I want at the horses. Just wish I could win sometimes. John Henderson

we've woofed before but all you want to do is play bank pool. it was in gwinnett. im buddies with black jeff if that rings a bell. im a solid b player that doesnt play anymore. I'd love some action though. I guess we're in the same boat.

I agree with you that it ain't what it used to be, but, it didn't happen overnight either. Things took a huge nose dive back in the late 70's and early 80's. By the 90's, good action or action spots were few and far between. We can blame it on lots of things, but IMO, as you said, there are too many things to gamele at anymore and too many tight pockets in the pool rooms. Few carry enough to even start or consider a good game anymore.

Oh well, Iguess sthe "Good ole days" were better than we thought at the time. Like you though, I miss em.

The 'old days' were much better. You could play a better player, lose and learn something, and turn right around and win it back off one or two lesser players.

I feel that the introduction of league play has killed the action and a lot of pool rooms. In the past, everyone learned to gamble in the rooms. Today, most get their pool fix by playing several leagues a week. Never going in the actual pool rooms. And being taught NOT to gamble. And the few that do, are taught that you don't play pool without handicapps. That handicapps are a good thing. All they do is hold potential players back.

While, argueably, there may be more people actually playing pool today, there are less pool players today.
Poker, pool tournaments, the economy and high gas prices, and pool leagues have all contributed to the lack of action in pool. I live in a fair sized city and we don't have a descent 9 foot table in town to play on. The place that's supposed to be a pool room is run by non players who wouldn't know a good table from a bad one and all they are concerned with is pool leagues and how much money they can squeeze out of the league players for food and alcohol. They actually discourage any gambling in their pool room (which is full of sub par equipment, mostly bar tables for the leagues).

Very interesting that when everything else in society is going to hell in a handbasket, that gambling isn't what it was....I mean there's no such thing as consequences for your actions any more, you'd think that betting would be up. Morals? What morals, you can't "define" morals (don't put your morals on me) for everyone ways of today should mean your "action" would be WAY up.

In a way, it is good to see, but like someone else said, there are a ton of other outlets for gambling fixes nowadays....that's probably the reason.

If you'd like to hook up with Bobby Pickle or Josh O'Neil both of Nashville, PM me and we can talk about that.

LOL...you gave me a good laugh! I'm not making fun of you at all...I just found your remarks to sound like a roadie who has run out of marks...especially..."And the few that do, are taught that you don't play pool without handicapps. That handicapps are a good thing. All they do is hold potential players back."

The players "held back" are the roadies who want a lock!! (-:

But I don't think leagues have done anything to inhibit gambling. Most league players have no business gambling in the first place...with ANY spot.

Just getting robbed consistently...not league play...is what has shrunk the pool of marks.

Roadies...put your flame throwers away. I'm just callin' 'em like I see 'em.

Regards,
Jim

One foul ball in hand is what stopped match up action.Nobody knows what kind of weight to give. With two foul it was lot easier to gage a guys game.Dont you think

I agree. I've found it really strange that league players don't know anything and for the most part, don't care to learn. I fail to see how league play contributes to making the players play better. And while it's the behavior of the players and not the leagues themselves, the leagues apparently don't care about the behavior of the players, about making them better players, about teaching them Pool's history, etc. Just don't see it.

exactly... lock ups with jam up players. ive already said im a solid b player and im not anywhere near pickles level. now for the other guy i have no idea. pickle would have to throw out some monster weight to flinch my wallet. if i wanted action like that id just go play the world beaters and road players in atlanta.

thanks but no thanks

Well I'm calling you out. Right here. Right now. Here's the deal. You like to gamble and your not getting your fix? Send me $5,768.50 and from there you can sweat out whether I'll send you something for it or send it back to you. This is sorta like a never ending bet. Someday I just may do something for it or maybe not.

In my hometown almost every bar had a local champ, the guy might not of been able to run two balls, but he could beat everybody in his bar.So you could in there stall with guy beat him and take off the rail and nobody would even know who you was.Now with leagues everybody is exsposed.

hmm...just this week I sat on the rail for 1dime....which turned into 2dime 1pocket action.....and this weekend I'm going to watch nickle a rack 8ball!!!:D

"you all" gotta move up north! ;) ....where's TAR?

I agree. I think that the action disappeared with the disappearence of the "old timey" real pool rooms.
