Garage to pool room conversion...

Looking at the old thread where Gerry converted half his garage to a room, I'm considering doing the same. My garage is quite big and I'm thinking of dividing it in half with a wall, using the other side for that "garage" stuff :)

My greatest concern is how to get heating and cooling in there. I live in So Cal where the climate is pretty consistent, but lately it's been very cold and has kept me from playing. And summer isn't a lot of fun out there either. Is it as simple as routing a vent from the central system?

Who out there has done this? What were the costs?

Thanks for any information.

I converted an entire two car garage, and I replaced the entire A/C system to accommodate the new square footage. I also had contractors completely seal the garage door, and lay a new concrete floor to level out the room. I had the outside of the house matched up exactly, so it looked like the house was made that way.

I had the money to do so from being in Iraq, but if you needed to, you could probably make do with a stand up A/C system, but the results may be inconsistent. As far as leaving part of the garage for "garage stuff", I just bought a nice would and steel shed and put it in the back yard.

If you are going to live in that house for a number of years, and you own it, and have equity, I would recommend taking about 20K in equity and do it up right. You won't regret it. :D I didn't.

Midnightpulp: whatever you do make sure you spend the extra money to super insulate it...

I spent about a 1/4 of what the other Russ spent !!!

When I had the HVAC put into my house about 7 years ago, I planned ahead and had vents run into the garage.

If you want pics, shoot me your email address and I can send you pics of my garage renovation.
