Gave my son his first cue

My son is 10 and been playing now for about a year. Has gotten to be pretty decent. Started off playing a game where he got ball in hand at the start of each turn. He was to the point where he could about 3 balls often. Now he has realized that the ball in hand is only when there is a foul. So he refuse to play the ball in hand game anymore.

I went to Vegas for APA singles the beginning of this month in which I was so close to winning the 6 bracket. I finished 9th. Missed my hill out and my opponent finished that game and broke and ran me the next to win. He also won the 6 bracket.

Anyways, as part of my huge prize package there was a cue (Action cue) awarded. The cue doesn't shoot too bad just not something I would tote around and really use. So I decided to give my son his first real cue which arrived in the mail yesterday. He was so excited after school when I gave it to him. He currently has 10 games in on it. Including two this morning before school.

Sounds like you are great father.

I had two daughters and one played straight pool and the other preferred 9 ball. They got pretty tough for a while and then they started have boys around and the gameroom was good place as just watching movies and going to the mall got old.

They learned a lesson early that I still smile at. I went in one day and one of my daughters was playing a boy, and I saw my daughter miss a couple shots that I knew she would make, 9 times out of 10. After missing, she looked up at me and gave me a little "no" nod. The boy got up and won the game.

It didn't take her long to understand, boys like to win. She had learned "the art of the dump".

Good deal. Is it a standard 58" cue? My 11yo still prefers to shoot with his shorter 48" dufferin.

That's good. But my 7yo daughter already knows that she's not allowed to date until she's 25.

We'll see how long that works out for.

Yeah I believe it is just a standard length. MY kids have been sharing a cue I found in my grandfathers stuff. It's an old fiberglass 42" cue that is weighted about like a normal cue.

For sure! I'm pretty competitive so that might just be the thing that takes me up another level. I've only been playing seriously for 2 years now. before that was just playing around at the bar.

Once he's beating up on me I know where he can find a backer at.
 
Very cool, wish my teenage boys would be into the game but I have high hopes for my 3 year old daughter.
 
Very cool when I have my first I'm gonna get him or her on the table young :thumbup:
 
I got my 4yr old a 48" players for Easter.

Teaching a 4 year old to play is way harder than playing pool...
