gear motor

Power Supply???

What kind of power supply would you use with this motor? :)

Why not just use a stepper motor?

With the low cost of cnc components these days I think it just doesn't make sense to build a manual machine.

When you build the machine, just put a stepper motor on your lathe spindle and use Mach to output a step and direction signal to it. You can change the rpm to anything you want within the motors capacity.

Royce,
What you are suggesting makes sense but not everyone has your level of cash to play with. What John is presenting is a very powerful drive at a very reasonable cost and 12ft.lbs of torque is huge. Steppers that I've seen are rated in inch/oz. of torque and even then they are a bit pricey.

Each drive has it's place and I would think it would depend on your budget and what is your end application. To each his own.

Thanx to both you & John.

That motor has 12 in/lbs of torque...;) Not ft./lbs.

spray booth motor

It looks perfect as a spray booth motor. Brushless, so no sparks, variable speed, constant duty. Too bad I already used a pitman gearmotor for mine. If it catches fire, I'm switching for sure.
