Gene Albrecht

Firstly, I'd hate to talk to people on the phone to get a sale. I don't understand how people can.

Secondly, where the hell do you lot drink?

What a place...

I'm prepared to give 'phoneme' lessons.

Long live Machino, and Joey, and Spidey, and Sean...etc...
If we all agreed on here, I'd have to sign up as a mercenary and learn
to live in a jungle whilst wearing camo and eating grubs and such...
...maybe Big Truck could make a survival video....

Phonemes--- is that like>>

L-ah-n-g l-ih-v mah-shee-noh aa-n-d j-oh-ee aa-nd sp-i-d-ee aa-nd sh-ah-n???

I used to work with the very first speech recognition and text-to-speech technologies as they were (what I recall) phoneme-based. I think it was called Covox, all though I forget -- was almost 20 years ago.

AZ never fails to amaze me...we got some serious talent on here.

lol. Personally, I can't believe Geno hasn't put out his own, "Call Me Maybe" video yet :-)

after watching a video of sfleinen playing, you would think he would have called gino a long time ago

Oh please. The story behind that match, and my infirmed condition that day, are well known, and even documented in that very video you watched.

That's a dangerous slope to sled, btw:

Everybody has their bad days, including Geno himself.

Nice try, though, Champ! ;)

Thanks, pt109.

In real life it is the way things go, even for the champions. Often (usually) it is a little (way more) rougher for us amateurs who get in the box.

But... there are always a few maroons here, who never step into the ring, yet are always ready to *talk* about pool on the internet.

Lou Figueroa
livin' the dream :-)

I watched a match live once that would never make it to TV.
It was Stephen Hendry (don't recall the opponent)..race to 10.
They got into a tentative safety mode early and the match went hill/hill.
....nobody ran 30 in the match...hell, I can't even remember who won.
But if you watched only that match...you would have thought Hendry
needed serious off the field.

All billiard games require some serious humility....
...whitey doesn't remember how well you played yesterday.

ha! I got you beat. I was there in person to watch two guys, Dick Lane and the school teacher guy (not Mizerak), play the finals of a 14.1 tournament in Dayton, Ohio back in 1977 (?) and they stunk out the joint.

Lou Figueroa
wasn't there but also watched the video of Buddy v Marco
at a Grady 1pocket event down South and it looked like
neither guy had ever picked up a stick before

I have trouble picturing Dick Lane play badly...even with his twitches.
Bob Vanover said he probably ran more 100's than Willie.

I once was asked how I did at a tournament....
.."Hell, the only thing I didn't miss was the plane....
...and I wished I had missed that."

Picture a perfect break ball and getting stuck to the side of the rack -- over and over and over. Picture endless safeties, because neither player could run over 20 balls.

Ugly, ugly, ugy.

Gene passed through New Orleans and stopped off to give a few Perfect Aim lessons to those who were lucky enough to get them, just before heading out of NOLA to escape Hurricaine Isaac.

A hole in one of his tires on his van late at night, prompted me to go to where he was. Luckily, it was able to be repaired by a plug that I keep in my car all of the time. Apparently he pulled another muscle in his shoulder when removing the tire but he's a tough guy so he should be in shape by the weekend for the Round Rock pool tournament.

Anyway, while it was a short visit, it was great to see him again.

I've heard he will be coming back through New Orleans and even might play in the Big Easy pool tournament in a couple of weeks.

If anyone is interested in lessons from Gene you could probably hook up with him while he is in the Austin, TX area. What a guy. A real driving machine. :D

Sometimes humidity makes straight pool very difficult.

Oh, and that school teacher?....gotta be Tom Spencer.

hmmm, no. I want to say something like Jensen, or Jenkins -- big brown curly hair (it was the 70's). I'm not sure.

Gene is gonna log more miles than me if he keeps up! :shocked2:

I am looking forward to this years Texas Open. Sadly, I don't think Geno has experienced the level of play that Texas players are gonna dish out.

Anxious to see how the old man matches up against the field of the Texas Open.

Do they have a Calcutta? If so, I bid $10 on the old guy, just to be a part of the party..................

I wonder how many people on this forum (everyone) knows how difficult it is to simply pay your expenses while "on the road". It is a difficult road to travel. It is an impossible road for most.

Gene has a reservoir of knowledge to share. Unlike most road players, he is willing to share that knowledge for pennies on the dollar of what it cost him to learn. I'm not going to go into his health issues are anything else. I'm just going to say that Gene is GREAT for this forum and GREAT for your town if he is passing through.

There aren't many like him anywhere. If anyone doesn't like my posts, PLEASE put me on ignore. I won't mind. Because I'm not going to change. Sorry but that's the way it is.

And if any of you guys who aren't married and you have a spare room to share, you might consider offering Gene a place to stay. You will be the richer for it. If that goes bad, I'm on the hook and will take the heat for it.(but it won't). :D

Good post, Joey.
