I got a very nice offer from a cuemaker Eddie Bishop to send my son a cue to use after he read about me wanting to see his old kid cue to raise money for his Jr Nationals trip.

Well that cue arrived this week, and we had a chance to use it a couple of times, he loves playing with it, his first real custom cue. Zircote with segmented birdeye maple handle. He does not have a shaft to match it yet, he's using my Ned Morris shaft in the pictures which plays great with the cue.

Thanks to Mr. Bishop and the rest on the forums that watch Alex's videos (over 400 hits on his last one he uploaded), and for raising $250 for us for expenses for the Nationals trip.

If anyone does not know who Alex is even after several of my posts about his pool life hehe, he's the 14 and under MA State Jr 9-Ball Champion and will be competing in the Jr Nationals in Vegas end of July.

He also won abut 30% of the 10 ball games we played when I took these pictures, and won our one-pocket game.

Way to go Mr. Bishop, and congrats and best of luck to Alex! A person's first custom cue is a great thing, and to get it gifted from a cue maker is even better. Alex will keep that cue forever I'm sure!!
And to Mr. Bishop, smart move on "sponsoring" a young kid coming into the game. Hopefully you will get much business back due to your generosity.

I'm sure he will, we just played in Snookers this Sunday for a "fathers day" outing :grin:

He won about half of our 10 ball games (with me mostly trying 100%) and then we went to play some doubles with two pretty good players, we won 5-2.

You can tell he's turning into a real pool player because he is starting to talk about how he needs to try a new tip and shaft hehe.

Did he notice any difference between the maple shaft and his HXT shaft? It doesn't sound like he needed to adjust.

Sorry, missed this question, there is a bit of a difference, but from what I see, he plays just as good with my shaft. The only issue is that my shaft looks to deflect a lot less than other regular shafts. It has a small diameter and a shorter ferrule than most. A good player that tried my shaft had to aim totally different than with his regular McDermott shaft, and when I used that shaft I found I did not have to adjust much at all.

He is getting an exact same spec shaft made by Ed Bishop to match the rings, we'll see how he does with that and if the small diameter, longer shaft and smaller ferrule make a difference with the real LD shafts.

I'm just hoping the shaft will be ready soon, the trip is less than a week away and I have not heard back from Ed about the shaft.
