Gerry Mayen - Seminole Tour question

Maybe it is just my impression alone but why does the Seminole Tour/Tribe and Gerry Mayen not get more recognition in the pool world.

I was reading the thread on their current schedule and the thought just crossed my mind. I really have no idea who Gerry Mayen is or who is background is. In fact, I would think that a lot of people don't even know him by name. The Seminole Tribe puts on multiple events with big added money (only $137K this year)

You never hear about them
-not paying players
-wanting to pay by post dated checks
-making excuses for turnout due to acts of god
-giving preference to one pro over an amateur
-crazy issues at their events

So why aren't they given more credit in the pool world? And who is this Gerry Mayen :) ?

I believe they don't get as much credit because they don't boast about what they are doing for the pool community, They just let thier actions speak for them.

I know first hand that they are doing amazing things for pool players and giving back to the billiard rooms by holding Tours outside of the casino. Too many Big pool tournaments are held at casino's. If more Tours would hold thier tournaments in the billiard rooms it will build interest around those communities. Billiard rooms are where pool lives, not in casino's. Don't get me wrong, It is great to go to major events in Vegas, Florida, and other major casino's, It's like a small vacation.

Gerry and his crew from the Seminole Tour are great guys and are commited to promote pool around the country.

Just my opinion!

I guess people just dont appreciate pool, The seminole tour prolly does more than any other organization for pool. Everything is professionally run, timed out, the money is great and on time.

I guess they dont need a snake oil salesman to push their product because it speaks for itself, also why would all these promoters cross promote. All the regional tours pretty much cater to "amateur" events and the seminole tour is truly professional

I know I never miss an event if i can help it

I went to the Gem City Classic last year and it was run amazingly well. You never guessed who was playing when and matches started on time. I wish they were doing the Gem City again I was looking forward to it.

Thank you very much for the kind words.

The Seminole Pro Tour simply tries to put on the best events it can with the budget we are given from the Seminole Tribe of Florida. We appreciate the support by the thousands of fans we have and the dedicated players that support our events.

We are also thankful to the few great sponsors we have that truely helps the tour happen. Though I wish that more companies would help by sponsoring our events, we are greatful to those that have come on board (Universal Pool League, Delta-13, Pool Dawg and all the great host rooms).

We think that this year is going to be awesome. We have added more money and spread out to different parts of the country. We are just concerned about putting on quality events, at quality locations with quality players an try to stay out of all the other pool "politics"

As for me, I don't have an extensive history in pool. I just like to play casually when I get the chance. I do have, however, extensive experiance in sports. I have been an NFL agent and have worked for professional sports teams in all aspects of the sports business. I see the great potential that the sport of pool has and hope that with the support of the Seminole Tribe and the continued support from all the great players and most importantly the continued support from all the wonderful fans we have, that we can help grow the sport of professional pool in the US.

I hope that everyone comes out to our events if we are near your hometown and watches our streams for each event.

Thanks again!!

I want to thank you and the Seminole tribe for all you have done, I have not had the chance to do more than watch a stream but I like what I saw and have heard nothing but good about your events from the pros I have talked to in the past.

What metrics are the tribe looking at to judge if an event or tour is a success. I am sure it has to be more than field size, are they looking at attendance or unique IP count on streams?

Thanks again.

absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerry & the Seminole Tribe are to be commended. Super job and like the man says, there is never an issue with people getting paid.

Not to mention that John DeToro does a great job running the tables.
